Landing, taxi and nav stobe lights

Hi
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations what to use and how
To do it say off a 11.1 lipo power.
Could use led landing lights but they would not look right.
Do you use the inner reflectors of cheap torches with more powerful bulbs in?

For landing lights, there is no substitue for watts - I would suggest you look in B&Q or similar for sealed halogen lamps. They are made as feature lights or picture frame illuminators They are rated at 12v and usually are in two sizes, 35 and 50mm diameter. Go for 35 watts or 50 watts if you want to see the lamps effectively at a distance on a bright day. The reflectors range from a narrow to a wide beam so go for the wide beam ones if you want them to be visible to spectators who will be viewing the model on the approach at a greater angle than the pilot. An 'engine kill switch' module will switch them ok and so will a cheap electronic speed controller for brushed motors.

Thank you for that. What nav and stobe light do you use on the comet?
Did the comet have taxi lights as well as landing lights. I.e switchable
I think the nimrod has different strobe and nav light patterns than the comet.

We didn't fit nav or strobe lights to the Comet, just painted the wing tips for the nav lights. On the real thing there were two taxy lights on the nose leg, I'd always intended to fit these but couldn't find anything small and bright enough so made do with the 4 landing lights. These are 35w each and switched with a single Turnigy speed controller.

Ok thanks. The taxi lights are right next to the landing lights in the LE of the wing.
The only nav light that is puzzling me is the one on the bomb doors.
When in flight it strobes White but when it is on the ground it strobes red so I'm going to have to have two lighs in one bubble.
U/C is now complete exept wheels and awaiting a quote for cnc cutting.

It is always useful to have Information on anything that will help others the only problem with forums is once the thread is finished with it's forgotten, something I need to work on, a new forum maybe called modelling techniques.

Mike,i recently requested the pdf catalogue from [ligting for modellers], and i have to say in no way did i find it confusing.I ordered some 5mm leds and reflectors which arrived in two day's but sadly one resistor was missing.
I phoned Ross who was most obliging, and the next day some spare resistors were delivered.I consider that first class service. ps.If you obtain your lighting from the above company, there is no need to consult MR OHM and his law because it's all done for you.
