Hi all, our chairman got a phone call today from a teacher in Basingstoke, is there any members around this area that can help out here, if so can you contact the lady in queston, it would be nice if we can do this please let us know if you can.

PS Some pictures would be nice for the Journal. :geek:

My name is Kate Hadfield and I am a science teacher at Dove House School in Basingstoke. Dove House is a special needs school with age range from 11-16.
We are using some of the BMFA's models over the next couple of the weeks in Science to make model aeroplanes. When attending the ASE conference a representative from the BMFA mentioned that someone may be able to come in to the school to bring some large models for the kids to see. It is through them that I have been put in contact with you.

We are looking for a someone (or more than one person) to come into the school and show off a couple of large planes for the kids to see and also the kids can fly their made planes at the same time. The children of course will not be able to touch or tamper with the brought in planes. It would make a nice finale to the project and also be great for the kids to see big models as well as ask questions to the maker! The particular lesson in question is Mondays, 11.00 till 12.30. I am flexible with dates but ideally would like either the 14th or 28th of February. I will not be able to get payment for this but if there is an enthusiast that wouldn't mind giving up an hour to pass on a passion I would be very grateful.

My contact details follow please dont hesitate to get in contact if you think you can help:

Hi all, I think they should seek the help from the BMFA Southern Area, as they may have an Education Officer in there committee. We try and help any schools in the London Area as we did at Ally Pally last weekend. Contacts fo the area can be obtained from the Leicester office.
Keep the Watts up

I have been in touch with Kate at Dove House School and will be attending with some of my models on the 14th Feb to talk to the kids and tell them all about the models and what we do.
I beleive youngsters are the future of the hobby and any chance to promote model flying (and the LMA) to the younger generation must be a good thing.

Nothing to do with this particular request but in a similar vein, I live in a small village with no facilities for the youngsters who are now growing up into petulant teenagers with "there's nothing to do" and "I'm Bored". The village publican has opened up his pool room in the pub for use by the kids on weekend afternoons where they can play darts and pool and use the Wii facilities on the large screen. This gave us an idea for something a little more mind concentrating for them to do. I loaded my RC flight simulator into the large screen computer and, with a bit of instruction let them loose with a trainer model. Not as easy as video games and with a little bit of luck it may encourage a drop of new blood into the hobby, too soon to tell at the moment but it is something they have never tried before.
