Which Lanc??

hi all,

not sure if this is the right place to put this but i'm sure someone will tell me if its not.

i am looking for some opinions on lancasters. after being at the bradford seminar, i have been inspired and motivated to build something larger (than what i have). i am also thinking that if i'm going to do it i might as well do it properley and i'm thinking that a 17-18' lanc will be right, but.........

both falcon and slec produce a kit. what i would like to know are what are peoples experiences with either or both the kits? i have previously build slec kits and the quality is great. i have seen falcons work and it looks great, but also their lanc has the option of a 4 piece wing which would help me no end. can slec variant be 4 piece as well?? are the fuz's 1 piece? if so can theyh be modded to have a break some where for transport and storage??

your thoughts please??

cheers

nick

Hi Nick , I built the Falcon Lancaster it took around 9 months to complete , the wings are in four but this is because I spent the day a Falcon and got him to change the kit , I dont think the standard kit comes with the wing in four , but I am sure he could if you asked .the Fuz is very easy to brake into 2 parts as all you need to do is add 1 extra former behind the wing ,we have done this with 3 of our 4 lancs but I didn't because it was no help to me having a big van .My lanc came out at 92 1b I thinks dads Slec lanc is a couple of pound lighter but we have found the best flying one is around 120 1b it gets knocked around in the wind less.

hi andy,

many thanks for the info. on the falcon website it does say that there is a 4 piece wing option @ 90 quid. the 2 piece fuz idea is to make it easier to build and store more than transport as i do have a transit which i will go in. i'm assuming that to make the fuz 2 piece, a few, maybe 4 tubes in sockets plus a few extra formers are required? do you know of any pics that show the 2 piece mods??

cheers

I have built the Slec Kit, Really tip top KIT!!

They helped out so much with any problems i had (due to lack of experience) The Kit wing is a 2 piece wing and the fussy is normally 1 piece.

I have added the extra ply former on the body to spit at some point but I'm not going to split the fussy just yet.

Overall the Kit is very good value for money..... BUT this is the only model i have ever built (other than a Tutor 40 AFTF Which i don't feel counts  ) so i can't compare to falcon etc.

Whichever you choose GOOD LUCK!

Cheers
