Liberty Belle

Postby Chris Lane » June 17th, 2011, 3:50 pm

Sorry to tell you folks that on Monday June 13th B17 "Liberty Belle" suffered an engine fire and was put down in a field but burnt out and is no more. The crew escaped safely. This from an email from a pal in Seattle.

That is very sad, that aircraft was absolutely mint and ran a dream. What an odd thing too, engine fires on those is extremely rare. I was at Duxford when it arrived a couple of years ago, it sounded so much smoother than the other two Fort's. It looks like theres a lot of bits to salvage from the wreck including three engines, it wouldn't suprise me if it's not long before they are building another one. Main thing is, noboby was injured.
