Re the build on here by Jonesy, Alan is fitting out the sytems on the model, we are unsure as to what batteries to use, i say subC size, highest capacity as possible, but am open to suggestions, at the moment, he is using 2 of mine, both subC, both 5cell, and there is a problem, using 2xar900o specky recivers, the flaps on one side glitch, they are run through a reversal lead, do these draw currant? trannys tried are DX9, and 12

Al, have you tried the glitchy flaps without the reversing lead and or the extensions to see if they glitch when direct to an Rx? Or a different Rx channel, or swap the flap channels over to see if the glitch stays with the same servo and wiring etc?

its a full wiring loom Ian, there are no extensions, everything is hard wired, Dave J reckons a voltage supressor lead is wanted, Alan is going to bell inwoods on monday, and talk to the specktrum guru they have there, fingers crossed,

The glitch with the flaps has been sorted. It was a faulty reversing Y lead, which Inwood's have replaced. As far as batteries are concerned, after having a good chat with the guys at the Northern Modeling Exhibition over the weekend, Alan is going with ABC 123's. We exhibited the model and did a few taxi runs after the model was programmed into Dave Johnson's TX (we are right hand throttle). The model is now ready for test flying which, hopefully, will take place on Sunday 18th. We'll let you know how we got on after then.

And, by the way, we find it very strange that no-one on the forum has any advice on batteries, when we all use the darned things!!!

ALAN--,it seems speaking to many that these 123 batteries are the ones to go for---i have plumped for them in my new one---

Alan, what do you want to know? A123's are great and I've been using them as RX & electric power batteries for a few years now with no issues at all.

best sizes to have,
are they hard to work with,
correct charger,
who sells them??

For powering rx and servos they only come in one size

This is a 2 cell 2300 mah pack

I have been using these for about 2.5 to 3 years in my 35% and 40% models with out issues.

Just have to make sure that your servos can handle 6 volt even though the a123 packs normalise at around 6.6 volt

I use a fma cell pro multi 4 charger to charge them as it's plug and play and also balances them when charging.

I have found the cells to be quite bullet proof. No memory etc.

In my big yak I had at weekend I found that the packs had discharged to 1.68 volts a cell.

I popped them on charge. The charger reconditioned them and brought them back Upto voltage

They are all ok now.

The only down side is that the discharge rate is not uniform. It holds voltage ETF until
The last moment and then drops off.

I drive 11 hitec 5955 tg servos off two packs and they work fine and that is alot of current draw when doing 3D flying

I just make sure sure I charge up after every flight just to be on the safe Sid as this only takes 5 mins when pumping in 4 amps.
