We purchased a Eco fan for our multiburner stove. These are powered by a peltier element. The question is, would it be possible to use the element if it were affixed to a 2 stroke silencer, with a suitable heatsink to power a onboard charging system whilst in flight

John, anything's possible it just might not be easy!

What kind of batteries would you want to charge? Lithium's would be a bit tricky to manage, but NiMh or lead acid would be easier to make work.

Although, unless you were thinking of going for an Atlantic crossing, it'd be easier to use a charger between flights. You'd know the batteries were fully charged & how much had been put into them, rather than hoping the onboard system was still working.

Was thinking of NiMH. This would of course have some sort of indicator in a position to show that the system is charging. You would as a matter of course check the battery status prior to each flight.

Hi John, if you abandon the on board charging idea you can always reverse the process. If you apply a voltage to the Peltier cell it will lower it's temperature, strap it to the cylinder head and increase the cooling for the engine. Well, just a suggestion !!!

why not go one further, have a Peltier cell in the exhaust suppling a Peltier cell on the cylinder head?

I just charge up the night before.......
