Just felt I had to mention that today at midday the Dakota based at East Kirkby took off for France. Tomorrow it will be dropping paratroops at Normandy. This very same aircraft was involved with the D Day landings 69 years ago and as some of you are aware it still has battle scars received at Normandy and also Arnhem. After watching the channel 4 program tonight on DDay I feel very lucky to have so much history at the place I live.

My Family friend was in the REME and landed on Sword beach. He survived the battle and went onto Falaise. At 95 he is still alive and will be talking to him this evening about the anniversary. He does not talk about it so much but I know he wants his "view" of his life and experiences in the REME to be visible to us all.
