Those of you old enought might remember the gate mascots at Salmesbury they were a English electric Cambera and a Lightning ( both aircraft built there). These were removed quite afew years ago but i am please to hear they are being replaced. The new gate mascots will be a English electric Lightning and a Lockhead Martin Lightning f35. It should be a nice proud duo.

the FC35 is a glass model, there is also one in the FC35 reception area, EDITED, cos i was way wrong about the EE lightening, it has indeed been used as a mold, but its suposed to be so far gone, a jet wash holed it, lets see if Mike can find out what has happened to it, shame we dont have more aircraft plants to show off our previous wares, until recently, we used to fly off the old lightening runway at sarms, happy days,

The brief that was on the BAE intranet, was that a contract firm had dismantled the EEL bit by bit to mould the parts to make a composite full size and then the real lightening was going into a museum. Not sure which. Then as Alan said the lightening 2 will be a full size composite replica. They will both then be placed side by side at the main gate.
