Bit of a debate going on on another forum, a scratch builder of a 90inch auster has asked for the best advice to secure his wings onto the cabane, he does not want unsightly stuff visible through the glass top, fair enough, but its been suggested he uses these new generation super magnets to hold the wing against the cabane, 1st. i think we will see the wings fluttering prettily down, 2nd, i advised against using them, because i have been advised on here, about placing them too near the reciever, could these magnets up set the radio? i think he is using spectrum, not sure, others have jumped in and said the magnets hold no threat to the radio, but, i am only going off what i have been told on here, anyone have any views?
for the record, i have suggested inverted L shaped steel brackets into 2 rebated slots in the top wing, and bolts through to secure the wings, with the neccasary sub structure to take this attachment, using the strut as a working strut, the Auster is 90inch span,

Quick thought, if magnets are that good for holding wings on....how would you get the wings off again !!!?
I think bolts will wing everytime for holding wings on.

That is frightening. The bottom fixing is known as the 'Jesus' bolt, is it not? I think interference would be the least of his troubles....

Yes neodymium magnets are powerful when in contact with whatever they are supposed to be securing but due to the fact that their attraction power diminishes exponentially with distance, if any loss of contact is made with the attracted surface it is unlikely that this contact will be re-made. I think a bolt is the only answer.

Airbus aren't using magnets to hold wings on yet.!!! unless you are designing an air launched drilling machine....it's a bolt every time.

Update, Magnets done away with, brackets on the go, and wings fitted with tube and piano wire, job done
