A typical test day at Woodford…

There was a slight chill in the air, but so as not to make any watching Southerners jealous, even though they didn’t need it, the hardened Northern throng dressed up like it was winter.

Presiding over the proceedings, Pilot Officer Johnson, MLMA, C&G, DCV, BWV breaks with tradition by briefing his new Temporary Ground Crew…

POJ: “Morning Men, right, here’s the plan. Once the ‘plane has been checked over for the final time, we'll start the engines, range check it and then see how it handles on the runway, Okay?”

POJ: "It flies bloody luvley, but a little nose heavy which is not a bad thing."

TGC: "Hang on a minute, something’s just fallen off!"

POJ: "Has it?? I'll do a low pass to check…"

TGC: "Yes I see it, the nose turret, is missing! At least the bomb doors open though…"

POJ: "Well spotted men, I'll go round again and land!"

The Wellington returned safely to the ground once again and the turret was recovered but a little worse for wear.

POJ: “Oh well! it's a phone call to SLEC then for a replacement, now who do I blame for not fastening it on properly?? DIIIIIGGEEEERS!!"
