London Model Engineering Expo

Postby Nigel Cox » January 22nd, 2017, 6:28 pm

I went to this yesterday, the BMFA were there with the Simulator trailer and many models flying with the Horizon guys. Would it be an idea to a stand there next year to promote the LMA ?

we would have to spend a far amount of money to do anything like the BMFA stands, you have to praise and admire them for splashing out and looking so professional, I would love us to look so good.

That is a point, we need a benefactor, our trade stand has long needed a posher outlook, The face of the LMA needs a posher backdrop!

We were actually invited to display at a model engineering exhibition somewhere London way a year or two back, but the usual lack of interest prevented anything happening. If anybody thinks it's a good idea, volunteer and do it it's how the LMA works!

Well Rob, i can only speak for the one we did twice at event city, i think we all had a great time, but, it was fairly local, and we could return to our homes, i suppose this ones a tad more involved,

We also did one at the NEC B'ham some while ago, We had quite a few aircraft on display and spent all weekend chatting to all sorts of people about our hobby, most of whom were amazed at the quality and size of our models. I think we managed to enlighten quite a few that weekend , very enjoyable... I think it was a holiday attractions show, we were promoting the LMA shows with Cosford in particular I remember the stand across the way from us was the Black Country Museum..........

I Tried to get us a stand their this year as I have taken on the job of P.R.O. I got a reply saying that they are over subscribed with groups wanting to attend and that it would possibly years before we would get a chance of taking some models. Will keep trying to get in but looks like they don't think we have anything to add to the event.

Shame that, not quite sure why they had a massive Leggo stand then, how that is more model engineering than the superb models produced by the LMA members ??

Strange, the interest at the Event city, and the display we put on at the manchester
aviation viewing parks garnered loads of interest

I suspect Lego paid a significant amount to have their stand there. Big company = lots of influence !
Keep trying though James, I would be happy to support an LMA stand there.

Just for everyone's information, I had a email back to say that they have no space for us in 2018. I was hoping to get a small stand and build up from their, but as their email now states it is very unlikely that space will become available. To say that I am disappointed with the out come is an understatement.
So sorry no LMA at model engineer show. Very short sighted by them I feel.

They obviously think or are informed that the BMFA stand with Horizon Hobbies, represents all model flyers. Very sad, and very short sighted as you have stated James. I am sure we will survive without them, with the way the world is going they maybe struggling to fill that place in a few years, wouldn't it be nice to be able to say no thankyou to them, if or when it happens. What is that old saying "what comes around goes around" we shall see.

Thanks for all your effort James, sorry it didn't work out for you this time.
