Can someone explain the function of the slots in the leading edge of the outer wing?

They compress the airflow through the slot, which narrows toward the rear of the slot, making the airflow speed over the wing, What happens to a garden hose, if you turn the tap on, then compress the end of the hose, same volume of water comes out, but at far greater force,

Thanks Alan. Fitting out a third scale model and that solves a problem.
