Just a quick question on the id number we now have to put on every model so access to it is without the need for tools. If your plane (scale model) doesnt have a no tool removable access hatch is it ok to write it on the inside of the retractable undercarriage doors? Reason if radio is present doors are accessable without tools if plane flies of and crashes chances are it will be visable anyway.

The CAA have updated the official word to allow marking inside a window as I asked them to. Now says...

How to label your drone or model aircraft
Your operator ID must be:

visible from the outside, or within a compartment that can easily be accessed without using a tool
clear and in block capitals taller than 3mm
secure and safe from damage
on the main body of the aircraft
You should use a removable label as your operator ID may change when you renew. You’ll need to remove your label if you’re no longer responsible for the drone or model aircraft.

Always use your operator ID, not your flyer ID.


It must be in the same language & format you are given the number, Chinese, roman numerals, viking runes, klingon and so forth are not acceptable.

It also needs to be somewhere on the fuselage.

And if you have a fair collection, as we all do? A drone operator may have a couple of drones, lot of us have many models, could do with a sleeve, stuck under the tailplane, and slide a number in, anyone got anything like this? Put me down for 90 of them-seriously!

3mm is tiny. I shall just print off a load of sticky labels and put them somewhere inconspicuous. Finding the number on a large model could become a game...

How will anything stick to a well used, film covered Wot4 that has no hatches, has glow fuel exhaust residue, plus mud and wet, then at the end of the session is subjected to cleaning with spray and rags? Even the profilm is trying to make a run for it in places
