60% Yak 54

Postby robbieskipton » December 16th, 2008, 10:53 pm

Hi all

Well, i think every one knows i love my aerobatics, so after much designing and bouncing drawings around the world to a friend in the states and Richard at falcon aviation, the plans for this monster are completed. It has taken countless man hours to design and be redesigned several times in places to get this master piece complete.

Here are the specs

Wingspan = 4.1 meters
Length = 3.9 meters
Height at front from ground to middle of spinner = 39 inchs
Height from ground to top of rudder = 44 inchs
Engine = either 400cc radial from Maki or 3w 275
Servos = 14 x jr 8711 Main surfaces and throttle servo
2 x 2.4g recievers
Power Box
2 x 4400mah nimh packs
1 x 2s1p ignition lipo.

Estimates weight = 65 - 8olbs

Keep looking back for building pics...

Thanks to Richard at Falcon Aviation and Als Hobbies for all you support and contributing to the design of this monster :)

That spec looks impressive for someone with sharp reactions and nimble fingers!

Wondered what was so gripping on your laptop at Gaydon

Good luck with the build, will there be piccies of the build on here?

Hi Mate,

Yeah thats why i was on my laptop at gaydon, i have a lot of good people/Friends there for advice, so was the best time to get some critical designing done:)

When the plane arrives from Richard at Falcon, then i will start documenting the build with pics and information about it, If all goes well, might even release as a kit.But there has got to be alot of water under the bridge as plugs have to be made aswell,

I have flown this beast on a simulator, and if all goes well with the proper plane, then i dont think nimble fingers will be needed as its very slow at flying and very predictable ( no thinking 12 seconds infront all the time), not to menting very forgiving with manovers which go wrong.

The one on the simulator was powered by a 3w, it dont prop hang as such ( needs 2/3 power to hang) but does nice slow passes in the harrier position...

Keep looking back and pics will be arriving shortly after xmas i hope ( Fingers crossed, Maybe Santa will deliver late)

Well Robbie - now that you have let the cat out of the bag I guess I will have to cancel Christmas and stay slaving at the workshop instead! - (Funny I dont feel like an elf and certainly dont look like one - So I guess I must be Santa!)
anyway - still cleaning up and finalising the drawings then should be ready to cut soon - Just had £1000 worth of 3mm plywood delivered - only to find that its 3.5mm so unuseable and the whole lot needs to go back - these are the things that are sent to try us!
and yes it will be available as a kit once we are happy that it has proven itself - like the Half Scale Fournier we designed
earlier this year

.... ...Nasty about the ply, guess that everything is sent to try us..... keep me posted on the progress anyway mate.

Hi John,

Well itching is the wrong word.. more like.....will it fly now... will it fly now.... will it fly now. .

Im looking forward to seeing if my design works ( as its my first large model that i have designed, and to see if all the hours of night school to get 3d cad qualified have come in use)

Still along way off tho... need to fund electronics now.... anyone interested in donating?????

Hope you are well.

Regards

Rob

Will get new pole next week this time T6 10 gauge thats 3mm wall thickness.
As for undercarriage all that actually broke was the ply plate, ive dug that out now and will replace next week. aielerons work fine now but will investigate further as to why they didnt work prior to the dump. :D

Well that sounds good news to me. It certainly is a showstopper. Look forward to seeing it in the air again soon :D
