Whilst not a big fan of DC3's, your flying site Tom looks great. That can't be sunny Blighty?

Hi Paul, its looking good, Ihave built 2 ziroli DC-3's and fitted the cockpit but its a pity you can't realy see the detail once you put the nose on. My latest is waiting for the paperwork to test fly, both came out around 50lb balanced with no balast, I extended the box in the nose as far forward as possible to move the batteries forward with a removable nose.

Keep up the good work Dave

Hi Paul it is litho plate behind the cowl. I used engine mounts like the Zenoah 26 on the 38's which allows you to bolt straight onto the plan bulkhead, this leaves plenty of room for a scale exhaust and the Litho plate covers the throttle servo's. The new DC-3 is mock coastgaurd based on G-AMPY after she was taken out of passenger service. One of my cockpits is the one shown on Dynamic Balsa's web site, the pilot is one of the wrestlers from the childrens games.

Hi Paul how is the build going, I have my own machine shop at home and had some spare machine time so I decided to make some prop hubs for my DC-3 and ended up doing some extra's. I also finnished my twist & turn retracts for my Ziroli Hellcat along with some 1/5 scale hubs, one of the others is for my friends 1/6 P47. Being cnc machines its as well to run off a few of each so if you need a pair for your plane let me know. My last plane ran Z38's with Biela 16X10 3blades which had loads of power, this one is also on 38's but I am using G Sonic 16X10's 3 blades which seem more poweful still and are a fraction of the cost.

Hi Dave
wow thats really impressive
ill take you up on the offer of a couple of prop nuts
im looking to purchase a couple of z38's soon i hope
so let me know how much you would like for them.
the build is coming on quite well so far .
i have started the center section, its a shame that nick ziroli didnt publish a builders manual
for this bird because i made my first mistake in the rear landing gear mounting block,
where i joined it to low between w4 and w5 with areldite and of course the n4 brace.
so i got to work jigsawing it out and remaking the blocks and n4 braces.
anyway here is the job so far with rebuilt robart retracts.
the saga continues......

Its looking good Paul. I remember getting to that stage on my first build, the one I have now was 80% built when I got it. I have fitted split flaps on the centre section as full size, Ziroli shows it as one if I remember. I did my exemption to test fly on Wed and it flew great, 1hr in one day (6 X 10min) flying seemed a long lime, I normally only do 3 or 4 X 5 min at most. I will finnish the paint detail now that is out of the way. send me a PM and I will post you a pair of prop hubs.

Dave

i think they are all supposed to be
around 20 the lighter the better
there has been alot of mods from the original 1980s plan
with the advent of lighter servo's and servo repositioning from the original positions on the plan
and more nose weight up front its going to be all over the shop.
i am aiming for around 20 ish so my inspector advised

Hi Richard, as Wayne has said choice of wood is important to keep the tail as light as possible to reduce the need for balast. One trip up point can be the ribs with the Nacels on, I have known these to be assembled in the wrong order putting the wing tube holes out of line, Paul is doing a great job just follow his build thread. PM me and I will sort out a pair of prop hubs. I have just got my full exemption for mine so just waiting for some decent weather to fly again.
Dave
