Flying Legends 20% scale Spitfire.

Postby steve white » May 17th, 2012, 6:10 pm

Hi all ,
Just on the back of Mike (Chockey) Booths magnificent achievment of flying (connie) his 25% spitfire across the channel, i have been spured on to finish my 20% scale spit that Mike used to kit many moons ago and which is sadly no longer available.
Basicaly i bought this model part built about 3 years ago, it has a glass fiber fusalage to which MIke has added loads of scale detail just lik his big one, rivets, panel lines, hatchs ect.
It has a foam wing with ply spars which pick up the retract bearers making it nice and strong, my version has clipped wings and is 80" span which is very managable as a one piece wing.

Stuart from The Fighter Factory took the model to complete the build part, making a new rudder and tail plane as these were missing from the box of bits, he also completed the wing glass clothing and retract install just leaving me the radio, engine and paint job to do.
If you want a model built, painted, or finished in any way then give Stuart a ring or visit his website you wont be disapointed.

I have just got the engine fitted and radio gear installed, not much left to do now just the dreaded exhaust to make, i hate this and testament to that is a box of broken, failed, not fitted or just abandoned exhausts in the corner of my work shop, maybe one of those might fit, i wonder !!

Crikey Steve she's a beaut. Refreshing change to see that scheme.
No chance of me having back I suppose... No thought so.
Look forward to seeing it fly soon.

Nice one Steve, good to see it done. Don't let Chocky near it though, it'll be racking up loads of miles flying out to Papua New Guinea or somewhere

Well done Steve, the jungle drums tell me of a fine maiden flight. Not bad for a 15 year old brand new kit. Congratulations.

Indeed Steve did a cracking job of the first flight, the clipped wings look pretty cool too. More surprisingly for Steve was that the wheels went up and stayed up until asked to come down, followed by an absolute perfect landing (see I avoided saying "pulled off a greaser").

Nice one mate

Ah you see a warbird from top class origins.
We need a new name for 'dangley legs' now.

Thanks Guys, Chocky your baby Spit is a delight to fly, very light on all controls, ecellent when flaps fully deployed and floats in to land.
Its a real shame this super model is not available anymore.
I have a few minor things to sort before my next outing but im already looking forward to flying this one again, if it ever stops raining!!!
