For my latest project,i have tried something different.
one of our local flying sites we use midweek is at Southport, and for the last few months the main runway which is normally lovely cut grass, has been under water,so i thought i am not going to be beat,i bought a set of floats off an LMA guy and modified the old LMA Sky 120 Trainer and fitted them---they are even the right colour :D :D :D the piccy shows the model floating today after several succesfull flights

Seem to be a lot of Spits on the go at the moment, so here's another to add in......this time a CompARF. Already test flown by the customer in silver, it was delivered to me stripped of engine & retracts for painting. I've spent the last few weeks correcting endless faults in the mouldings (very dissapointed considering the cost of this kit) and this is as far as I've got so far.....

I've also made replacement resin cast exhaust stacks (poured using a flexible silicone mould) as those supplied in the kit are terrible..............

The CompARF model isn't that accurate and I discovered the openings in the cowl are almost exactly 1/4 scale not the 1/4.3 that matches the wingspan. The kit supplied stacks were bigger still and looked odd, so the new stacks have been made to 1/4 scale to match the cowl openings.......this means they'll also work for the Mick Reeves kit and will be available to anyone wanting them.

So this winters project has been this cub.
I got it from Idigbo last August while meeting up for our Germany Trip. It was a project that Ian had bought to do himself , but it found a new home with me and seeing theres another one lurking in his shed then that all worked out very well, so back to Pixie land it came. The nice bit is its a Civilian L4 so it makes it a little bit different and it ain't YELLOW. I did fancy a Military jobster but now I think i prefer this for a change.
The basic structure was fairly good apart from some issues with the fuz in the sense that when Ian had stripped the fuz the window glazing was holding the front end together and there was some some untidy building which bugged me. It came engine less but with some 1/4 scale servos fitted. The flying surfaces were fine.
I wanted to use this model as a general everyday flyer but also as a glider tug to tow up some old school gliders, the latest being a 1/4 scale Wien I bought, so the power plant was to be a Zenoha 80 twin on a Toni Clark 2-1 tuned exhaust system, also this will go a long way to reducing the noise.
So in the following months the rework on the airframe was done, tow release fitted, reinforcing at the front end to spread the load of the engine ,new tank and Servo mounts fitted, new Push rod assembly for the elevator ,new opening doors, sliding window added plus loads of small bits and a tone of sanding.
I recovered it in Solartex, added all the reinforcing/ wear tapes, new windows, a ton of new litho work and finally a nice new coat of paint. I mixed the colour myself from a couple of tins of blue and a tin of white to match the fullsize best I could. Nigel from Flightline did the Masks and the Cub logo waterslides. Top man as ever.
So now I have the cowl to finish up, a few more bits of litho on the glazing and some cockpit bits to add. Couple of weeks should see it done.
So a big thanks to Ian for passing it onto me in the first place :af (though the wife dose not see it that way :'') Now if you could magic me up somewhere to put it that would be ace.

And here is the real thing.
I will add some more when its in its finished state.

Latest up-date on my Rawle Mossie. Had a go at making a tail wheel retract unit, need to tidy it up and add an air cylinder and steering arm other than that it seems to work ok.

1/4 scale P-47 being kitted by ADFA models. The bits are slowly coming together now, Jan has the wings & tail feathers to finalize and I still have to finish the retract design but here are some pics so far. The engine is the UMS Evolution 260cc which I will have to make a prop driver extension for as it only just fits in the cowl, the main u/c units shown are now being replaced with a more scale like design which I am working on (may be hydraulic) and the tail wheel retract is nearing completion.

Sweet, worth all the effort.
One of the most important features on a scale model that will make it look 'real'.

Me cub has flown. It was well worth the cost of the Toni Clark 2 into1 manifold and separate canister. Noise wise is so so much better than the standard boxes. I did build an air flow duct from the cowl into the canister area to get some cooler air over it with the hot air exiting from the sliding window being left open.
Still adding details to it but its getting there slowly.

He had a night on the tiles , was not at his best poor chap. :D :D
When fundage allows I will get another YT pilot to go in there.

Flew it today after moving the CG back an inch which was much nicer and also did a bit of glider towing. Towed a 4m Discus up to try it out, so next time I will get the Wien up behind it.

Pretty much done with the CompARF Spit now........Klass Kote clear coat completed on Wednesday so it's being left alone for a good few days to fully cure before further handling...............the clear has flatted everything down nicely and really brough the wash out.

Re: The peoples projects

It's been Spitfire city here over recent weeks..........I've also had a 1/6 Mick Reeves one in for repair. Owned by a local club guy, he'd flicked it in after a deadstick just after take off, knocking the nose clean off and punching the gear up through the wing. There was various other knocks, dents and cracks, so it's been fully referb'd, resurfaced and resprayed. No paint mask markings on this one, so I went with matt vinyl decals from Pyramid Models........for a quick job on a sports scale model, I was very impressed. This one has had it's Klass kote matt clear today, so it'll all be going back together later next week.

Before......
