Cheers gents .yes rob you really wouldn't want one of them on you 6 try to pop you out of the sky . This has been a really weird project for me, as the la7 was one of my least favourite planes but the more I got into it the more I began to like the lines of the aircraft .and now love it I hope I'm doing the right move with engine choice moving from a zenoha gt80 to the dle111 for a bit mor omph .

A little more progress on the Tiffie...tail-wheel in and functional, cowl mounted to suit Quadra, canopy capers again, primed and panel lined...waiting on the mains to get the wing to same state...

Tail section of the Mosquito now done (apart from covering the rudder). Rudder and elevator controls fit under the tailcone, next job is to move onto skinning the tops of the wings ready for the models next inspection.

Good afternoon Sean

As I visit time to time the forum to watch the mosquito building progress, I ve noticed that you are looking for cowls..

I ve ordered 2 cowls to Richard which has been used for 3 blades props . As the trial tests on the first flight proved that the 3 blades were quite disappointing I ve switched to 2 blade props..(and kept the 3 blades + cowl for static purposes).Facing to this situation Richard was unfortunately not in a position to supply new ones so I ve made a mould to make my owns ones in carbon fiber based on Richard's part. They works very well. If you are interested I can supply you one 1 piece which can be used as a perfect master for your own mould (easy to do). However, regarding the metallic back part you ll have to find somebody to make them : in this respect I can give you as well the proper dimensions...

My return of experience of mossie construction showed me that it is everything but "a long quiet way" compared to a single engine fighter and give some lessons of humility. Do to its size and weight I had to find my own way out of the modeller's business..to gain "technical independance" and easy spare parts access when things goes wrong .

Bon courage and best regards

L

Hi Laurent,
Thanks for the offer. The parts i was after were spinners for the model, i managed to get a set of cowls from Richard. I have a set of spinners now but i'm sure other people will read this who would like to take you up on the offer.
I can't help thinking that it would make building this model a lot easier if it had a Fiberglass fuselage and a different system for plugging-in and bolting up the wings?

Sean.

A little more progress on the Typhoon, fuse nearly completed with the majority of riveting completed but I am now "baffled" on the best way to duct air to the motor. That huge air-intake is enormous but the majority of engine is hidden behind the spinner......experience / installation ideas are more than welcome to save me more head-scratching...

Hi frank, on mine I used the bottom of a drainpipe, the plastic shoe, this is behind the centre hole in the scoop, it forces air up to the fins where you can add a little ply at angles to duct it over the cylinder, mine works a treat.

:D I love you. :D .....many thanks for the prompt reply....."its only easy if you know the answer"..

I really didn't want to cut additional opening holes into that cowl ...would be such a shame...

Many thanks Chris, appreciated... :D

Having moved house a year ago my modelling has been directed to repair of hangar rash from the removal activities and getting some sort of workshop set up in parallel with the refurbishment of a neglected bungalow.

The Chipmunk plans and laser-cut parts I bought from a fellow LMA member have now been rediscovered and work is in progress. This is the Dave Womersley 1/4 scale Nationals winner version and is strictly for builders. The pictures show the state of play. The modification of the nose from the original Laser engine bearers to a radial mounting for a Zenoah 38 can be seen and on the building table are jigs for the sliding canopy construction. Also on the table are parts for the wing centre section. This is being modified to allow the wing panels to be assembled to the centre section at the flying site prior to fitting the complete wing as a one piece unit. The structure is very light and Dave's ended up at 8.6 kg.

Q1: The plans only show the left wing - how do I go about assembling the right wing?
Q2: If I finish the model as RAF Halton Station Flight Chipmunk WB552 in its 1954 aluminium finish with yellow trainer bands will a 2.4gHz Rx work buried in the fuselage?

Hi Chris, regarding Q1, the method I've found reliable is to wipe over the plan with a rag wetted with cooking oil or olive oil, allow the plan to dry (overnight) and, when you turn it over you'll have a clear mirror image for the opposite wing. It doesn't spoil your plan for future use. Hope this is of help, I'd be interested in any other ideas. Jonesey.
