Hi,

This has been difficult at times, the kit from sleck was fantastic, BUT it is one hell of a model. The hardest part was getting the correct angles on the wing,

I have been building the Lancaster for around 4 months now, i am working to strengthen the model also adding things such as cables for the lights and piping for the servo cables.

I must admit, it takes it out of you....if your like me once i start i can't stop until i have a finished model.

Still loving the build tho!!! :D

Opps!! GF that's an earlier version of a wife, I little more tolerant at this stage but it gets worse, enjoy your freedom why you can, or at least get the dam plane finish before the ball and chain become permanent.

Hello Everyone,

Just an Update, the Lancaster has been checked over by Dave Johnson...all looks ok :)

I have lots and lots of work ahead of me....but i'm not slowing down just yet, I am now working on the Box sections that connect the wings in the Fussy! I will get you some photos of this soon.

All the tubing is now in the plane for my cables, adding the pipes has also added lots of strength to the model.

I can now also start to add sheeting to the bottom side of the model, soon as i can get her outside i will get some more photos....

Cheers :)

Hello All Again, :)

I have been very busy the last few weeks....lets just say planes and trees don't work....

As for the Lancaster, I have been putting off the Job of plugging the wing together into the fussy....just in case they didn't fit.... :?

I am glad to say all is well she looks very nice, I have attached some photos for you all....:)

I have loads to do now, but the main thing is that the wings fit and are all bob on!! :)

Well months on and i am still building the Lancaster... :)

I am after tips on how to sand down the fuselage and wings.... how can i sand a large surface without having highs and lows?

Once i can get her sanded down i can then move onto the fibreglass.

Any Ideas?

Thanks Rob

Rob---the big sanding tool from Permagrit will get the worst down for you,but as Alan says ,sandpaper on a block of wood is a good substitute,i have used an electric sander as well, but you need to be carefull depending on how soft the balsa is !!!

A large flat sanding block is the only option.............DON'T press hard or you will remove wood along rib/spar lines, and the downward force will press the sheeting down in unsupported areas meaning you'll end up with ridges in the sanded surface. Just use the weight of the block/your hand and let the adrasive do the work for you.

For future reference when sheeting wings, make up complete 'skins' 1st, sand them flat top and bottom, then apply them to the wing in 1 hit. This way, you'll have minimal, if any sanding to do once sheeted, so avoiding the starved horse effect.

It's about time we had an update,

Over the past few months i have been pushing on.... with the weather :)

In the last 3 months i have fiberglassed the whole fuselage, finished building one of the Wings/Narcels.
I have more or less completed the tail section and rudders (as you can see from the picture below)
Lights have been installed on the left wing, Flaps and Aileron all made and test fitted,

My only concern at the moment is weight, the model has really picked up weight :?

Will get some more (BETTER) photos soon!
