Hello Folks,

Is there anyone, or does anyone know of some one building a Mosquito? I am looking for a decent kit if there is one available, having burnt the 1/4 scale Spitfire on the woodburner what a pile of s**t that was for quality.

If someone could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

Thanks for that Phil, I have looked into a couple of the mentioned, bit dubious about Mick Reeves as I had 1/4 scale kit wooden Spitfire and it ended up in the woodburner due to not been impressed by the quality of the drawings and the kit. I would like to also point out that I am not the only person to comment on the quality of this particular scale model.

FC SCALE PARTS the old fiberclassic site are doing a cracker mate 150" span check it out im going too try and get my hands on one she needs 2 60cc zenohas, hope that helps ,

I do know of someone building a 1/4 scale Mozzy from his own design, ribs/formers etc are all cad designed and cut out and its designed for electric, still in the build stage but hoping to have it finished by Xmas. If it helps I can ask him and the wood cutter of any plans to kit it. I suspect the plan could be modified fo petrol power if required. All up weight of the electric version anticipated to be around 30lb. There is also the Richard Rawle 1/4 scale one available, Richard is often on here and has a couple of airframes in the for sale section up for grabs.

But a 1/4 scale one at 30lb.................. ....160"+....what does he build from, Helium!!!

The wood down here is much lighter than up north obviously , quarter scale is correct, 13ft 4in in old money so should make for an imposing aircraft, cant wait to get my hands on it. The builder ( no names, no pack drill) has built several large electric aircraft and his design and build technique is well proven so if he says hes hoping to get it around the 30lb mark I wouldnt want to put money on him not doing it

Another cracking build thread on the Marauder by the way, shame its going abroad on completion as I may have actually attended a show to see that one, beautiful aircraft not commonly modelled.

Just my opinon here, but why is he aiming to build it so light?....................at 1/4 scale, thats just over 28 sq ft of wing area.........so will give a loading of a little over 1lb sq ft!!!!...................thats glider territory rather than heavy metal (or wood in this case ) I wouldn't fancy flying it on anything but a flat calm day. I've seen the smaller 1/5 Rawle ones at almost double that weight and they fly fine........

Hi all
My 1/5 scale model is 48 Ibs and when I get around to finishing me 1/4 one ( hope this year) will be around 80Ibs and thats working hard to keep the weight down. most of the weight is in the hard ware. The mossi is a builders plane as well as a pilots plane. It looks easyer than it is round fuz and there is a step in the top surface of the wing witch throws people, its hiden in the top nacel fairing.

I'm certainly interested

What might gain more interest from others, would be if you worked with one of the kit-cutters to allow a builder to buy a semi-kit of the cut parts, (wing ribs, fuselage frame, etc.), I believe there's a market, for a decent sized Mossie, possibly from the USA.

What engines are you planning on using? A pair of 62s??

The builder just likes to build light aircraft I suppose and being electric I believe there are only a limited amount of motors out there that would power a heavy version without serious amounts of money being involved. He has built several large electric aircraft around the 30 to 40lb weight and I am sure the Mosquito will fly right. I will see if I can get him to put more details on here eventually but I suspect he wants to build it first.

It looks like I was right but slightly ahead of the game though, Richard is currently building a 1/4 scale Mozzy.

Agree with you regarding the 'cost' of electric systems.......there are hugely powerful systems out there, but at a price. The Hacker H-200 + 14s 13,500Mah LiPo system we fitted in Al's 1/4 scale Spit last year was bonkers money......but the power it developed was staggering (scared me more than any petrol engine ever has).....so the old idea of electrics must be light has literaly been blown out the window.

A pair of these systems in a 1/4 Mossie would be stunning (But you'd need to remortage the house to buy them and use Sizewell to charge it!!!!)

It was inteaded to have 2 x 62 mount straight in but have gone for 2 geared 62 with scale props. Had to do some work on the gearing for them to line up with the engines to run true. The idea is to get it flying before putting the detail on and find how it handles.
