Whilst taking a break from modelling have become involved in setting up the Bottisham Airfield Museum - see http://www.361fg.com/museum.htm

We have recently taken delivery of our latest project a full-size fibreglass replica of a P-51 Mustang fuselage from the bulkhead to the aft of the canopy.

Our aim is to fit out this section with all its original fittings. At the moment we have built a complete instrument panel and have collected an original bulkhead, rudder bar & pedals, seat, oxygen regualtor, VHF radio and a canopy.

We now need volunteers to help with this project and who better than modellers who have all the requisite skills - so if you want to get your teeth into something bigger please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Hi Aaron,

Will be good to see you & the jock.

Sim pit idea on back burner - I think we have decided to make an accurate as possible replica of Lou IV/Athlene.

How is it coming along Jason. I am able to offer the paint masks for the insignia and the stenciling to complete the part airframe.

Give me a shout when you are closer to the time.

Nigel,

Sorry for not responding to your email -have been busy arranging Saturday's 1940's dance.

Not much progress as still collecting bits - ahve recently acquired an original seat and an antenna.

Still short of volunteers to work on her - hint, hint!

To be honest it may be a while before we paint and as we need to fit the internal structure first.

Will keep you informed.

Cheers

Jason

Stuart,

Attached is a photo of her in October at our open day.

Lower longerons have gone in so we can fit the floor.

Windshield temporarily fitted - new canopy aquired to fit our canopy frame.

Seat has been restored & etched primed - just awaiting the fittings to attach it to the floor.

We have aquired a pattern for the bottom instrument panel surround.

Bulkhead is being sand blasted as we speak before being permanently fitted to the airframe.

We are urgently on the hunt for some steel box section 100 x 50 or 75x 50 to make a trolley - any leads??

We are now having a regular restoration night every fortnight - next one is Thursday 8th December if anyone wants to pop along.

New website on the way: - www.bottishamairfieldmuseum.org.uk

Cheers

Jason,
I am fascinated by your project. You probably have the NAA drawings, but if not I could probably help you there. I have NAA drawings of all the P51 varients on DVD.
I'm building a 1:5th scale static replica, and you can contact me via my website www.spitfireinmyworkshop.net
Good luck with the project
Regards

David Glen

David,

Many thanks for your interest in our project - I have to say I have long admired your work and have often looked longingly at your website

We have a full set of engineering drawings on DVD although there are couple of folders that don't open very well - so another set would be welcome.

You are probably too busy but if you do fancy helping us with some 1:1 modelling you would be very welcome!! even if it was just a couple of small items :D

Kind regards

Jason

If you let me know which folders you are having trouble with, I'll gladly make copies for you.
And thank you for your kind comments about my website. If only I had a little more time to keep it up to date.
Having said that, my P-51 project has been dead in the water since last October. I'm currently writing an MSc dissertation with the OU, which isn't leaving room for much else.
Best regards
David

Hi Jason

Sorry to hear about the museum, have you been able to secure a site yet?

Stewart,

Yes we have found a temporary home at the Royal British legion in Bottisham.

We have our re-opening on the Sunday 29th April - don't know if you could bring over any WW2 models??
