Just taken on getting the 60% English electric Wren up and flying again.
Needs some TLC , but its still generally very good.
It will get a new 2.4 radio install .
It will be powered this time by a DLE111 which should give it a bit more go than it had before.
Hope to get it flying this year if I have the time, so its sorted for a few LMA events next season.

Is that the one Roy Salter built quite some time ago.

I had the pleasure of flying that at Old warden many moons ago before they got touchy about large models.

Nice.

Now that's just power-crazed! The full size original flew on 7.5 HP whereas your 60% Wren will have a DLE111 quoted at 11.2HP. . . . . . . .

Slow and stately is probably the best way to describe it. I seem to reacll aileron response was very slow but ok on the rudder. It also glides quite well as I recall the motor stopped on one flight.

Have fun and enjoy.

Was not one in there Stuart. Got it as a bare airframe from Ian . I think it used to have a 75/80cc single which quite a few people tell me was marginal.

I seem to recall it was a Mackay 80 although my recolection is that it may have been a twin. It was not overpowered and I think your choice of a DLE 111 is a good option. 28 x 10 prop (if you have the clearence) would be a good choice, especially something with a wide paddle blade like a Biela.

Thanks John. I am hoping that the DLE will be perfect for it. The engine which I got 2nd hand came with 2 new Biela 28x10 props so looks like things were meant to be. Plenty of clearance for them as well.
Just in the process of collecting the bits to build an exhaust system for it.

Well I got all the relevant bits of paperwork through this week and the weather was playing ball so the Wren took to the air. What a great model, it flew better than I could of hoped. The DLE 111 with good silencers built into the fuz was the Perfect match for this great old girl.I fell very happy to get an old project like this back into a usable model. Its a joy to fly . Just need to add the rest of the detail bits now and get the rest of me flights done.
I will gets some pictures and Video sorted soon of it but I am a very happy Wren flyer.

Great news Simon, look forward to seeing it in action. I seem to recall the original engine was a Mackay 90 twin. Pilot is on the go Simon, you'll have to let me know what clothes etc? White flying suit a la Old Warden?

Ian.
