Large Scale Mosquito

Postby frank fearn » September 11th, 2013, 7:33 pm

Not sure which one yet, but I am hoping to start a large scale Mosquito next year. There doesn't seem to be too many about, (should this not tell me something) but the urge will not go away.I fancy the Rawle 1/5 scale but I am unable to find much information nor many flying videos

Does anyone know of a flying example apart from Richards? Really keen to gather as much info as possible prior to committing myself so any info / experience from the never ending talent often displayed on here would be more than welcomed.. :D

Appreciated,

Frank

Hi Frank

I've also got " the urge" for a large mossie, (wifes grandfather died in one in the war)I've got a Brian Taylor 71" FB mossie plan I intended to double to make a 1:4.5 scale. 142" with two zenoah 62s. It would be a beauty .

Hi Frank,
I'm in the long process of building Richard's 1/5 scale Mosquito. I have changed the plan slightly as i'm building the fighter bomber version. There are some videos of Richard's Mosquito on youtube
http://youtu.be/GExuqLMKkQY

This is the stage i've got to with my build so far

Stunning Sean.. :D :D ..just the way I like to build them, all balsa / ply.... I have just mailed Mr Rawle to see if he has all accessories availble but it doesnt show the retracts..., have you cut yours yourself or had it pre-cut, ..looks well. What motors /finished weight do you expect, do you have a forum anywhere?
Many thanks,

Karl,

Quarter scale would be out of this world....make sure you do a thread.. 8-) 8-)

Regards to you both,

Frank

Hi Frank,
All my own work i'm afraid. Richard does take a while to respond to emails some times as he has dyslexia, you are better off giving him a call. I got my retracts from Unitracts not totally scale but then i didn't want to pay £800 for a set of mains.
I'm hoping to keep the model under 20Kg but it is registered just in case it comes out a little on the heavy side (Mr Bones is keeping an eye on it). Planning on using a couple of Zenoah 38 or 45's again depending on how much the air-frame weighs.
Richard doesn't do the spinners anymore for the model which is a pain, as yet i haven't found any on the web which are the correct size/shape.

Nice work Sean.. I see Richard has a 1/4 scale on his site, I assume its still within its primary state, wonder if he will be producing all accessories ect for it :?: :?:

Good afternoon to all DH98 lovers

I built mine on between 1998 to 2001 from RR plans; it has been certified as "over 25kgs category" in La Ferté Alais in 2001 as it was built and based near Paris; Although this plane is not really easy in a logistic point of view and not so easy to take off gently from hard strips, it flies beautifully ; after a long storage breack of 5 years I intend to bring it back in the air in spring 2014 in Geneva where it is based now;

If you need any help you can contact me in MP

Thank you and best regards
