Thanks Dave, it is a work in progress, still so much to do, but bit by bit I will get there.

Cheers

Cut out the hatch area over the main spar mount.
Using my Zona saw and a razor blade, I removed the piece.
I will be using two screws to hold it into location. Have added support rails, it is a nice tight fit.
I will have lots of room inside to mount the wings and do the electronics.

Finished up the access hatch, nice fit.
Have also been sanding and filling the inboard wings, have applied some primer on the top surface which will be Sanded down to smooth out any issues.

Sanded down the primer with 320 wet paper. I prefer wet sanding, paper last longer, and you can clean as you go.
Engine nacelles still need to be constructed, but I like the look of the wings with some paint, starting to look like something.

Thanks Stu, always something to do.
Began work on some fuselage Windows. Layed up some glass, cut it to size and removed the window pane portion.
Marked and cut out the frame on the fuselage. Sanded down a recess for the glass piece then glued it into location.
The plastic window will be installed after painting. Happy with the results so far.

Did some filling and sanding, added some primer, it turned out pretty good.
Will sand it back later before doing panel lines.

Gorgeous day today, so I decided to set up the Lanc for the first time.
The shade of the trees offers a bit of camouflage.

Thanks Dave.
Did some work on the front turret top cover.
Made of balsa, shaped and glassed. Attached it to the top of the fuse.
Made a fillet of epoxy, filled with spot putty, and a coat of primer.
It still neds some more sanding and filling, but happy with the look.

Cheers

Hi
Could you tell me the length and wall thickness of the tube you used to support the two half's of the lanc fus .
Thank you
Arthur.

Hello Arthur.
I made my own tubes out of glass cloth and resin.
I do believe they are about 1/16 on an inch, or 2 mm.
They are pretty strong, and secured to the 1/8 ply fuse formers.

Cheers

Almost time to get back into the shop. Summer is closing fast here, so I hope to start plugging away on the Lanc, so much more to do, but more fun to come.

Thanks for the quick reply ,but you did not mention the length of the tube. I am looking at building the slec wellington but will have trouble transporting the finished model .I have had good advice against building a three piece wing, but having seen your Lanc build ,a two piece fus would solve some of my problems. I fully appreciate that at the end of the day its all down to me, but all advice is appreciated, and it looks to me that you know what you are doing.
Thanks again
Arthur

Hello Craig,

As much as people think i'm a gonner, i am still around. Very busy with my new GF and child. :)

Your thread is giving me a building bug, i vowed never to build again...

With regards to the vertical fins, i went over the top with everything i added wooden dowels and two bolts. I had seen a tail fin come off a Lancaster at a show once.

I bought the cowls from Falcon Aviation, also the spinners and wheels from him too.

Now for the tail wheel, i had a disaster with the tail wheel on mine. On a test day before she had ever even flown i took her to my local flying field. Powered her up to do a taxi test, off she went...then suddenly the tail wheel bent over and BANG-CRASH!! I immediately closed the throttle but she kept on going right into another members brand new model ... to make matters worst in my panic i hit the retract switch (thinking it was engine kill) so yes you guess it she didn't just eat the other model she sat on it too haha

I laugh now but at the time i was gutted! :) :) so a strong tail wheel is needed if you ask me.

Keep up with the good work.

Kind regards

rob

Sadly not Nick it was sold to a guy in Greece one of my many mistakes in life, but i feel there maybe Lancaster Mk2.

After seeing Craig build his i can see so many areas where i could of done it better, the Lancaster was my first ever build. Before that it was a tutor 40.

That's quite a big job after a tutor 40. Just goes to show that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.
Arthur, sorry for not responding fully to your earlier question, the fuselage tube is 54 inches long. I wanted to ensure that it is attached well to the formers. As well I went as far to the rea, so that the entire structure also will support the tail wheel, which has yet to be thought of.

Have been working on mounting of the fuel tanks, there is plenty of room to place them as close to the main spar as possible.
More to follow as I progress.

Craig
