Yak 3-9 1/3 scale

I started work on a new display model on the 28th of October 2014 for this years season.
The Yak 3 was chosen as an under modelled Warbird which is now very popular in the fullsize airshow circuit , after a whole set of jigs,tooling and components were discovered in Russia a few years ago.
Thlis made it viable for the first time since the second world war for this aircraft to be reproduced for a modern market.
My model was conceived from my own drawings, cross referenced with scale data and cad data and digitising by Leon at Belair laser kits.
This made the whole process swift and i have to say the cutting based on my advanced construction has been simply perfect,with no issues whatsoever in the fit of part A to B.
With Belairs input, this has helped me achieve rapid process to the point at 18.1.15, I have the entire airframe constructed in its initial phase.

The model will be finished as White 100 .

Graham, I'm thinking around the 24kg mark.
Not sure yet as the motor weighs 4.5kg and I've yet to fit it.

So after a fair break and more completion work on my MK 19 Spit, I've started the last push on the Yak.
Canopy made and fitted, I've purchased A 3W 150 inline twin, so no lack of beans in the performance.
I've just made a suitable carbon/Ali engine mount, so I've allowed myself a play at weathering.
The UC is finally under manufacturer after let downs.
Soon to be on wheels when I can take some good airframe pictures prior to fitting out.
All in good time.

24 kg is light, it's going to be a big floater. My 128" fairey firefly weighs in at 41kg.

Interesting Karl. I have the whole finished airframe to hand, so weighing individual parts pre servo fit will give me a good idea.

Congratulations on putting together a lovely rendition of an unusual type which I very much look forward to seeing in the flesh,I would be interested to know how you might be planning to cool the 3W engine in general, and the rear cylinder in particular,to be honest this is an area that has really always put me off going for a substantially sized warbird of this configuration,plus on the Yak there doesn't seem to be any evidence of a small chin cowl a la 'Mustang' to utilise,I see there are a couple of intakes at each wing root which might duct air forward but tricky or what.

Anything you can share here would be informative since I know you will not be satisfied with just cutting a dirty great hole in the bottom of the cowl.

Trevor, good to hear from you and thanks for your interest and input.
In answer to your question, I plan to cut most of the cowling away to cool the motor
In fact you are right I have made use of the leading edge intakes to ram additional air over the rear cylinder.
I also have extensive baffling from a Yak7 chin intake I plan to fit.
Warm air exits low and into the wheel wells.

Thanks for the reply,will look forward to seeing your solution,as you are fully aware the rear cylinder is the real problem here, the effective cooling of which will be mandatory on this big twin in order to avoid problems.
