Thanks Jason, well its taken another week with a bit of help from my fellow Catton members to finally get the retract mounts sorted to give the scale angles . I will do the final gluing after I have made the retracts that I will be using, the one in the picture is just for setting up.

Got the canopies Rob, thanks. Retract work halted again with work work. Stent a few hrs over the weekend on the wing center section, trying to get it looking better for Gaydon. I just put it together and it seems to be getting bigger lol.

I found some time and enthusiasm to do a bit more on the Spit, I have made some heavy duty hinges for the ailerons, flaps and tail surfaces. Flaps and one aileron done, second aileron in progress. I also made some alloy servo horn adapters for the big 1/4 scale servo's along with some mounting brackets.

Dave

In picture Spit 002.JPG above are the hinges really only bolted to that small strip of wood which appears to only have a end grain glue joint to the surrounding structure ?

Its 1/8 ply with reinforced areas around the mounts both sides. sheeting is also lite ply.

Moved on to the tail feathers, the weight certainly piles on when beefing up the hinge and servo mounts. I am still not happy with the general strength of the tail frame and will beef up the leading edge and possibly extend the servo mount to the trailing endge to tie it all in.
