Hi all

My name is Rob Crawford and i have become a member of LMA,i'm from N/Ireland and have been into RC from the age of ten (27 years, yikes, is it that long)

I am getting back into large models after a 10 year break and have registered a MR 1/4 scale Spit in the over 20kg scheme.

The inspector designated is Ian Robb whom I know from RC years back at the Nutts Corner club.

Glad to be a member of this well organised association and look forward to meeting you all.

Rob.

Hi Rob

Neat building, well done. I notice you have fitted an RDS system for the ailerons but I don't recognise the manufacturer of it from the photos. Can you supply details or did you make it yourself.

Regards

John

Hi John and thanks!

Yes i use this on mostly everything simply because it has zero slop and yes i did make it myself.

Hi Rob,
Great looking build so far.
Also watched your videos on YouTube motor sounds very nice.

Keep the photos coming, have you decided on markings yet.

Thanks Wayne

The kit as you probably know is based on MK 9 MH434 but i am going to try to make it look like EP 120 hence the absence of wing tips it's clipped!

What a beauty!

I'm on the lookout for the 3 branch exhausts for 1/4 scale or even molds will do, i have the MK9 pipes but EP 120 doesn't have those Lol attention to detail!

Thanks for the reply Rob.
Can I ask what you use on the inside faces of the slot in the control surfaces that the wire runs against and what you use for a bearing in the wing trailing edge.

Thanks

John

No worries John i'm glad it's of interest.

The slot for the wire is a plywood box lined on the inside with the Mick reeves proskin (it's hard stuff) you need to get this perfect, it's one of the most critical parts of the setup, not to tight and the gap must be totally even.
you can achieve a good fit by cutting 2 shorter lengths of same swg wire and placing them at each side of the plywood box before bonding the sides on.

The bearing is simply the outer sheath of a control snake hysoled into a 6mm plywood sheer web, a simple set-up really but the slop is zero and i don't think you need to use such high torque servos with it.

Thanks Bob that means a lot.

When i forgo being social for months on end i can loose enthusiasm.

Not even getting much flying done with the weather,it's been a poor summer altogether this year where i am so i thought i'd get stuck in and do a bit to the spit.
