Hi all

just beeing going over a 1/5 scale Chippie, and need some advice

it has sm services strobe and lighting boxes, in it i don't want to change them but might have to?
just wondering what voltage is required for the SM services boxes? which will work of a tx switch and need to understad how to set it up

it originally have a 1 4.8 nmh which is pancaked and 1 c series 6 volt again knackerd will not charge
so i am changing for receiver 2000mah 7.4v lipo packs and 4 - 6 volt ubecs and changing all tubing and clean the tank

2 new RX,

this is all that needed to get it airborne?

the engine is a Fugi mag with a red and black wire running to a switch i don't understand how these motors work and need advice ?
this motor has no choke as far as i can see i not sure how to set the failsafe? or how to set a kill switch? if possible

does the mag need a battery?

Hi Richard,
If its a Mag engine with ATM (automatic timing module) then it doesn't need a battery as you don't have an electronic ignition module.
I would imagine that the red and black wires are for a kill switch which should be servo operated so you can kill the engine from the TX should you have any problems.
My Fuji 64 has a choke so i'm surprised your carb doesn't have one?

what size Fuji is it ? if its a 64 heres the manual... http://manuals.hobbico.com/fji/fjig0064-manual-v2.pdf although Fuji engines were discontinued several years ago most of the manuals are on the net.

the engine is a ATM, not sure of size a no markings as far i can see

no choke just 2 copper pipes coming out of it i will post photos i might be wrong?

the kill switch is on the outside the little on in the photo i think this need moving internally and a servo added, for the fail-safe to work correctly

Richard, i once witnessed you help a chap with an engine and you were telling him about all your experiences with 2 and 4 stroke engines, to listen to you anyone would think you had had every make of engine ever produced and been working on them for years. As for your engine not having a choke you quite simply stick your thumb up your hole.

despite you knowing everything i will try and explain in simple terms. not all walbro carbs have a choke so you need to bung the hole up with something, a thumb is easily accessible and will fit the hole quite well.

ok i will state again i cannot see a choke arm? which is weird considering that most 2stoke engines come with a choke

i will double check and get my eyes tested

i understand the mag principle, after a little googleing, but setting throttle to cut out either on a kill switch or throttle servo that can be done either way

i presume to obtain tick over rpm u use the trim in a MAG setup

i actually learnt something i did not know that i assumed that all 2 stoke engine have choke lever of one form or the other

i thought auto choke systems which u get on mopeds and certain motorbikes

Hi Richard,
I always set my throttle up to get a good tick-over with the throttle stick at its lowest point and use the throttle trim to stop the engine.
The use of a kill switch is to stop the engine at any throttle position and is normally done on a two position switch which if you get into trouble say taxing etc you can just flick the switch and kill the engine without messing about with the trim.

On a magneto engine the kill switch usually just earths the LV side of the coil. I have a couple of 30cc petrols without choke butterflies never been a problem, wine bottle stoppers work well.

found out this a bt 32cc

heres the engine to get cowling off i had to unbolt carb trumpet

here the carb

Found this on the web. Looks like the engine had a flat plate choke before the trumpet was added.
