MIG 15

A very big box came with my birthday present the other day - a Flytechnique, 1/4 scale MIG 15. It's an absolute superb quality composite kit with all scale features (it's been on order for 2 years as there's a big demand).
I don't normally regard composites as 'true' scale building, but 'assembly' projects. Nonetheless, have posted here as it may be of interest over the coming months...
Power is a Merlin 200 - that was last year's birthday present!.
K.
PS - if it flies as good as the little 'un, I'll be well-chuffed!

Looks fantastic Keith, don't forget the Journal when you are putting it all together! Have fun!

All servo's, linkages etc., now installed. A lot more work than I anticipated...
Pic' shows preparation for painting using a Scotchbrite pad. My spray equipment/facilities are defunct so Peter Johnson's spraying it for me as he's got a lovely new DeVilbiss spray gun...

Finally, progress and I've completed spraying of the finished colours.
Using the Scotchbrite pad, I've 'burnished' the finish to give a flatter texture which, to my eye, is more realistic than a high gloss one.
Now for the insignia using masks from Flightline Graphics...

Keith, will you mount a camera in the cockpit? If you do, you might want to look at the incredible working collimating gunsights Tim Noack has produced:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJm4ZS ... uMskwZp3EgI have his email which I can pm to you if you wanted to look into it.

Keith,
Apologies for must have seemed a bit of a rude post on my part. I'd noticed the MIG's optically flat front windscreen, and it was this that prompted me to post the question. What I should have said was that "a Mig would be an ideal subject for a cockpit mounted camera" because of this panel, rather than implying yours should have one. I was not feeling too bright when I posted, my apologies, I could, and should, have phrased that all very much better.

Progress on the MiG. Doesn't look much, but a lot of time expended masking/spraying the insignia.
Flightline Graphics masks help a little, of course!!

Well, it's finally finished...
What a nightmare it's been doing the canopy - glazing, mounting rails, getting it to slide properly - and - lock with the scale locking mechanism. Feels like I've spent more on this than the rest of the model put together..!
Now on to a full assembly, motor runs and radio checks, etc..

All finished and first, complete rigging.
All systems check out, so up to the field tomorrow to check CG, run the engine and a bit of a trundle...

Now the test flight's done, I've decided to give the finish some weathering.
Early Russian jets were a bit rough and a pristine paint job is a bit unreal to my eye...
