DH Beaver refurb

Postby richard armstrong » August 1st, 2017, 7:54 pm

hi all

asking for some help please and for photos if any of DH Beaver previous owned by Alf Machin,

at present the AUW dry is 23-24kg (ouch, :( ) trying to loose a little weight where possible but it might not be, he built it like a brick LOL.

as you may be aware i have been refurbishing the Beaver, but the last year or so i been concentrating on learning to fly so the beaver got shelved

i am modding it to have servos in the elevator, rudder, servo on steering

i was wondering what size control horns would do the job, could i get away with using off the shelf large horns, use g10, or something else? suggestions welcome with links or photos please

using 10-15kg servos on elevators, and a 20kg+ for rudder

plan on covering with light weight cloth so i can spray paint it, found a local coachwork who said i have old base coat paint for free, loads of colours to choose from, solartex is too expensive, and need to learn to fibre glass anyway?

looking to cover in 1/2 -1oz - 2oz cloth not trying to add too much weight? recommendations

i am looking to make new cowl using lost foam and packing tape mould but not sure what size cloth required?

engine size 70cc or 80cc twin, but no where near that yet!

under-cart is not fit for purpose so my options are aircraft alloy, or fibreglass, which needs to take 25kg

i will try get it ready for gaydon show

time to get busy
