Andy--not changed my mind ,the plans i have used was for a twin turbine,so when Richard from Falcon cut the parts ,this is how it came, but i intend cutting out the other ducting when i get around to working on that area over the winter months--DAVE

Now the LMA shows have basically finished,i am spending much more time on this build, and i visit the workshop now at least twice a day,i normally spend a couple of hours in the morning ,which gives me chance to leave whatever i am working on time to dry before returning later after work to carry on with another section--i am lucky in having two large workshops,so i am working on two seperate sections at once--over the last week or so,i have built the dorsal fin,[the piccy shows the basic shape built in balsa formers/foam,but is now all planked and rubbed into shape]built and planked the Rudder, and finished and planked the fin--i have also sorted the hinges etc,and dry fitted, and tonight i have fitted the rudder servo and linkage----the complete assembly is now ready for a final rub down and filler etc, before the next stage which will be to glass cloth the rudder /fin assembly

Morning Nick,on the rudder i have used a Futaba heavy duty metal gear jobby.I am lucky in the way that i have flown the old Vulcan for many years ,and other than an early flutter problem on the rudder,i have used Hitec 1/4 scale servos all round on that one----on the new one, which because of the bigger wing area and drag, will fly even slower than the old one,i intend using Futaba 1/4 scale servos ,doubled up on the main surfaces.Even though this has a 20ft wingspan, the surfaces are split into 6,so making the loads much lighter.

Finally,a lot longer than expected to finish the fin assembly,i have now got a complete rudder /fin assembly all rubbed down and filled and ready for the glass cloth. In between finishing this,i have been final fitting the nose and tail cone to the main fuselage,as the plan was to get several mates down over this weekend to assemble the complete model for the first time, and check all the incedences/wash out etc ,and lock everything in place whilst the wing tubes were finally glued into position. Before this could be done,i had to spend several days building the basics of the final wing, this was finally completed in time for the guys to spend time over the weekend to assemble, once i get the pics downloaded from everyone,i will post later--

You are right Neil, you want to stand next to it, I think he will need a bigger pit crew.

And the last one for now---since the weekend, the second wing has now had the 3 spars completed, and is sat on its jig for the the trailing edge etc fitting.I am expecting the basic retract units to be delivered this week so i can install the woodwork in the correct position in the wing and front fuselage

Thanks Rob---if i can get it to a safe stage to transport, you should see it in the flesh at Gaydon---the biggest worry at the moment is its awkward to move without damaging ,but i am hoping to get to a stage where i should be able to lift onto the van without damage---thats providing it fits on the van !!! Looking forward to seeing yours at Gaydon, didnt get chance to look at it at Cosford----DAVE

Dave your current 1/7th Vulcan started life with 2x45cc supertirge engines eyt. was it as a pusher or ducted fan etc ?? Reason I ask is cos I have been searching and high low for a plane that has not been built etc and I have found one and I worked out to be roughly 1/7 to 1/8th 12-14 foot wingspan etc trouble is this plane use 4 turbines and I cannot afford one of them!!! my missus would kill me! so i would have to use as a pusher etc using liteply and balso etc I think I better join the LMA and come to one of your meetings either at gaydon or Wigan etc and have a peep and chat with members but first step first is to join etc !!

Andy/Paul--it was indeed a pusher with 2 super tiger 45cc in ,but only for 3 flights at Finningley as it was then, they were so unreliable that i re engined with 2 --zenoah 62cc before it made any public shows, amazingley not as powerfull as the S/T ,but much more reliable on Petrol. These were in the model for approx 10 years before converting to the first turbines several years back.If you can make it to Gaydon, come over and say hello and see my latest 1/5th version---DAVE

Dave

I didn't realise that the Gaydon was tomorrow 24th Oct my mistake. I guess I will have to come to the Wigan one as i will become a member in the new year and attend the Wigan as my first LMA outting. more fitting I think. as for my new project over the year next year will be 13 and half foot wingspan and 15 ft fuseledge it is an interesting plane I think it has not been made as a model plane yet
