Slingsby T21 Sedberge. 1/3

Some photos from Ray Rodgers of his latest build of a Sedburge glider

Built from a kit supplied by Laser Cut Sailplanes, it is 1/3 scale, 6m span

I have a very fond memory of flying one of those in Sussex, when one day the thermals were so powerful it went up, a most surprising experience as hitherto it'd come down like a type-writer thrown out of a 12 storey window! I confess I'm surprised also at the profusion of delicate ribs, was it not, in reality, fabricated by burning out the interior of a log? :lol:

She's going to be an imposing sight in the air, congrats!

When I was a callow youth in the Air Cadets I spent a week on a soaring course in Someset, on hill site close to the Cheddar Gorge.
I was ground crewing one hot sweaty day and I had taken off my shirt as I was so hot, when one of the instructors called to to jump in and get a flight in. I said I would get my shirt but he said dont bother. Their is little wind so the ridge is not working and thermals are few and far between, We'll be back down in 5 minutes.
Of course I found the only real thermal of the day and screwed the barge around. The vario went into the green. Imagine! That only happened during launches! So up we went and it was great fun for the first 30 minutes. Then I was cold, and getting colder. Before long I just wanted to land, but the instructor wanted to make the best of the thermal. The only thing was, I was shaking the plane to pieces as I was shivering so much. I had to let him fly it because I could not feel my hands. We got up to around 2700 feet but qwe were loosing visibility so we headed back and landed. They had to help me out. I defrosted in the warm sunshine on the grass. Great days.
