Hi all on the new forum, the sky is the limit or so it would seem.
Great, the trade of information should be endless.
I thought you might like to see the progress with my 1/3 scale Bristol Scout for dawn patrol flying next year.
Despite being a Spitfire fan, obviously, I just could not resist the chance to build an early bird after being so inspired at Gaydon.
The DP will probably be unique in aero modelling history so i was gald to be oked as part of it.
Anyway here it is, its handy having it around just to add to the airframe now and then as I carry on with commercial work.
I have also built the rudder which hinges nicely on some carbon tube and rod so that it stays vertical as it is an all flying surface.
I will add to this as it goes along.
I can't get the damn picture down to the right size so here is the real thing for now.

Mike- open the pic in Microsoft Picture Manager and click on picture then resize. Resize to the percentage you require. Save it!

Usually the easy way to find it just left click on the pictur twice and the programe opens (at least it does on my XP), by the way its called "Microsoft Photo Editor", click on the word Image at top of screen & select Resize"

Yes of course, M Picture Editor is with XP, if you want Picture Manager (much better) I believe it is downloadable from MS website FOC. Works the same tho for reducing pic sizes, as do other programs like Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop etc.

Thanks Fred I hope to get back on it soon as i have been busy with Spitfire kits.

I am planning on using a geared Z38, mainly because It would seem that this is the way to go, when taking into account what the greater percentage are using in the Dawn patrol.
The sound as i remember ( Toni Clark had one at some Euro do i was at years ago) sounds most convincing .
The general waft coming from the front end is so great that you can stooge around at fairly low revs.
You should put your build on here Fred.
This is the best thing that has ever been on the LMA forum, inspiration and a picture is worth a thousand words.
I should know, I am a commercial artist.

I will mike but its going to take me a while before the build starts, the plan has been copied badly (its nearly back to 1/4 scale) and its a big plan to lay out and sort out and i need to get a cowl to help getting the size right. What is the average weight for a neiuport 17

Shes back on the bench DP, after the Zeppelin inferno and a smart talking to by Sqd Ldr Baldock -Marrow..
Good progress being made, all wings built and now just finalising the centre section on the fuselage.
Then its horizontal tail surfaces and U/C.

Wheels and cowling are in the post.
Thats 103" span with 27' of wing area, I can't see it weighing more than 36lbs so thats 1.3lbs to the square foot.
I think it will fly!

Yes the Zep took a lot of getting over, I wanted to have the biggest model in the LMA, but I hadnt really thought it through.
Being the biggest isnt the best.
Jumping from one prototype to another,rather than progressing through different scales, with years of construction in between and no experience on type is shot in the dark.
It would of taken dozens of flights to 'shake it down' and learn enough about its flying characteristics to even think of displaying it at a public event.

Anyway back to reality.

The Scout is coming along nicely thanks Stu old son, its all built bar the elevators and I am contemplating the covering and scale stitching.
I am looking forward to it gracing the flight line up at Baldock-Marrow's patch before the spring is out.
Hopefully Captain Tappin RFC will have a smile on his face at the news.
