P51 Mustang Big Beautiful Doll Rebuild

Postby stewart clifford » July 26th, 2011, 10:29 am

Heres a bargain I picked up at the May show at Shuttleworth. It's the Topflight ARTF which is unflown and has had the covering partially removed and generally in a bit of a state. It came with all of the servo's (most of them are Hitec which I'm not too keen on) and all of the Robart retracts. Missing the canopy though, anyone got one please?

It won't be refinished as BBD though as I think it's been well covered by modellers over the years and no doubt since the fullsize had a little mishap there will be even more models of it, so I'm thinking of a different scheme maybe a 352nd FG Blue noser, "Happy Jacks Go Buggy" from the 20th FG or most likely something from the 355th FG which was our most locally based group.
Definatly won't be a 361st Mr Webb as I'm not keen on that Blue camo

'Cripes A mighty 3rd' would be better, rarely modelled.

Hi Alan, there are 6 Hitecs as one flap servo was missing, theres a super tec one which will also be coming out. I will get the spec's off them(i think they are 645's metal gear) and send you a pm.

thats a typical state side resto,,..,clearly the real one in ww2 was not shiny like this..anyway whats wrong with it not belonging to the 8th,????,.although the 8th was the bigest U-S airforce set up in the shortest time the others were of equal importance..Anyway im sure what ever you choose will be a welcome change from another doll...what about a 60s reno racer...or one from korea...

The triple sounds nice but I haven't found a video of the 100 twin wound up yet, the ones I've seen makes it look like it gets hot and won't open up. Two stroke triple motorbikes can very easily cook the middle pot, a similar problem could be experienced with the a/c engine but you're right it does sound great(prefer the radials though). How much is that triple?

Nice Graham, though a distinct lack of throttle management and scale flying as ever, when its got hyper power.
Ironic that the real thing drilled at the weekend with a 74 year old pilot at the controls!!! Only in the states, RIP to the lost.
There are plenty better looking Mustangs than 177.

I totaly agree Stewart, you can't beat the sound of the radial looks much better too.I believe the triple is about £4000 so a good bit more than the Moki 250.
Cheers,Dave.

The link above will take you too the colour scheme I've chosen (I know it's in black an white). It's a 355th FG machine based at Steeple Morden (The Steeple Straffers).
The nose band and rudder are blue, lettering is black, not sure about the colour of the name yet. I had found a colour picture of this before and now I can't so got to keep digging around.

Engine will be a MVVS 40cc (anyone got one for sale?). Canopy and spinner coming from the States, Ozy, If you haven't got a canopy yet I can put it on my order, very expensive though it will set you back $7.99.
