LMA GENESIS. Inverted/upright Zenoh?

Postby John Reynolds » August 1st, 2011, 6:08 am

A small matter; I am ready to think about the engine control run and have offered up the Zenoh 62 to the bulkhead. This leaves the plug, exhaust etc most exposed to a bad landing. Is there a reason why the motor cannot be set upright?

I am about to bend wire for the u/c and have 3/16th which I propose to double up for the main rear leg with 3/16th for the front section. Any advice as to suitabliity of the system please; I aim to incorporate a sprung spreader. If the wire is too flimsy I can always fit the part supplied.

Slater Reynolds.

The engine doesn't care which way up it is. Most installations are inverted purely for packaging reasons and most a/market silencers are geared toward inverted mounting.

Cheers,
Dave.

Dave, thanks for that, now I see from Toni Clark's instructions that it is best not to have the carb above the fuel tank so I could put the engine at 45deg which places the standard exhaust right in pilot's eye view! Thanks for the encouragement. Slater Reynolds.

45 degrees from upright looks quite good and damage is less likely. My first and last ' incident ' with an inverted petrol engine - not a Zenoah or even a Zenoh - wiped out the spark plug , carb , high tension lead and several cooling fins. Best of luck. Peter Clare.

Peter, well, I am sorry you had that bump; at 45 deg the magneto seems to stay just inside the bottom of the fuselage but I'll wait a while in case there is reason for not trying it - unequal weight?

Thank you for good thoughts. Slater Reynolds

Thanks for the replies Dave & Peter; I will go for the 45 deg option, I can find quite a nice throttle cable run, Slater Reyolds.
