Over the last month ,i have been concentrating on the main fuselage centre section, which is the only part left not in primer ready to go.Because of the sheer size, its awkward to work on on a bench,so as seen in pics,i have stood vertical and worked on one half at a time, this makes it much more manageable-----one side was completed last week, this includes all internals like fuel tanks/plumbing to turbines/turbine mounts/jet tubes and outlets---the top and bottom of this side was then rubbbed down and 2 coats of G4 pondsealer applied---this is ready for final rub down and white primer now

Over the weekend, the whole section has been turned over, and all internals to tanks,turbines/extension leads etc have been fitted all ready for planking. The top of this half had been planked last month,so only have the underneath now to finish .Over the Xmas period ,the internals of this section had another interim inspection, and the airframe now has approval to completly cover ,with another inspection due later this month for servo linkages and turbine mountings etc---getting closer by the day :D :D :D :D :D :D

After another delivery of balsa, and a few more nights work, the last section of planking is nearing completion--just a few fiddly bits around the turbine ductings and this week should be ready for the final rub down and glass cloth.

Keep going Dave, only another 500 sq ft to sheet, sand, glass, sand, touch up, sand, fill, glass, sand, sand some more, prime, rub down, fill, rub down, prime again, rub down, paint etc. Your gonna have one hell of a strong right arm.

Have your ever wondered if there's an end to this project?

Looks amazing, looking forward to seeing it fly.

Stewart

Hi Stewart--yes i have wondered many times---this project has taken me 2 1/2 years of my life up to now,but the thoughts of seeing it in the air keeps urging me on---i spend some time on it every single day at moment--even if its only an hour or so,as long as i do something on it i feel the end is in site---i am still looking at flying it in the white primer sometime in the next few months---i am at a meeting tommorrow at the Vulcans birthplace for the LMA ,and i am hoping this will be where i will test fly it---i can imagine it now, taxying out from behind the workshops there !!! :D :D :D :D :D

Today i could have finished the glassing, but instead spent the afternoon driving over to Southport to Glass suppliers,so Early Sunday it will be the last balsa rub down aand glass --then each day next week several hours will be spent getting flatted off to a primer state---should be able to post pics next weekend of all airframe in white primer

After this,i was test fitting the retracts when i had an accident with a pop bottle[reported in another thread on here] and this has put the build on hold whilst my damaged hand recovers

Today,i managed to get back into the workshop to start painting this section---because of the cold weather i just mixed a small amount of paint to test out the conditions, and its dried great,so hopefully tommorrow will manage another couple of hours and paint another section

Dave , incredible, the paint goes on and suddenly it becomes an aircraft.
What an epic sight this will make on its maiden.
If we have a hot summer you can sell tickets for members to sit in the shade underneath.
Hope the injury is healing well.

Over the last few weeks, many of the smaller jobs which will hold things up near the finish have been completed--fuel tanks installed--fuel filters installed--all radio in Fuselage and both wings now installed and working---all retracts now plumbed in and bolted in and working[with metal tanks now],and all parts painted in at least one coat of primer---

The turbine bays have been cleaned up and all crevices sealed with silicone to keep any unwanted air out,and areas behind the turbine flame have been painted with heatproof paint

I have today managed to pick up the 4th turbine needed,so fitting and plumbing the 4 turbines will done in next few weeks.

Over the next week, there are some areas which need more rubbing down and second coat of primer, and the turbine lids need final hinging and painting----
