Multiplex Royal Transmitter

Postby barrie burton » April 4th, 2011, 8:53 am

Does anyone know if the FRSKY 2.4 ghz system will work when fitted into the MPX Royal transmitter. The transmitter has been upgraded to version 3.3 software.

Hi Barrie, just picked up your query about FRsky 2.4 conversion. I'm in the process of doing the same to my very old Multiplex Expert 'softmodule' gear because I would still like to use it with it's quaint but efficient programming systems, after all it did cost nearly 600quid 20 years ago!! and never let me down. If I come across any probs I will let you know but so far so good.

Thanks Dave.I have been a MPX fan since day one, well almost.Problem is now sorted,my Royal transmitter had to go back one step, software wise, then i could use the Frsky module. My 3 MPX transmitters are all now conveted to 2.4.My 3030 uses Jeti Duplex and my Cockpit and Royal both use Frsky. No glitches, other than self induced, with any of them.

Barrie, glad to hear your FRsky stuff works ok. I have done a few test flights with my conversion using a lightweight foam electric model (to reduce collatteral damage) and seems ok . Looking at the Frsky spec. the output wattage is 60mw compared to the 100 mw of most of the 2.4 on the market. My son,Greg, does a lot of glider comps and he says that flyers are using Frsky stuff at extreme range. I'm not sure about a big power model at extreme range with my conversion at the moment though.

Hi Barry, just thought I would let you know that I installed the FrSky gear in my trusty old 62cc Megawot after doing extensive checks in the foam test bed model. Pleased to report results are absolutely fine. I wonder if the old MPX Royal will last another 20 years??
