Handley Page HP42 Wing Anti Stall Slats

Postby brucepeter2007 » May 4th, 2013, 8:41 pm

Has anyone got details of the anti stall slats on this aircraft - and any reference to how they work on this plane. I know HP developed this system and they had a strong patent but I cant find out anything else. I ask because my 94" is ready for engine run up and then its her maiden and I have no slats installed. Will this make it prone tp tip stall! Any help or information from anyone welcome. Regards Peter Bruce

Hi Bruce
the wings arn't eliptical they look pretty rounded wich should prevent it from tip stalling if you keep the airspeed up
hopw this helps abit

Have you seen the ones on Ian redshaws model working. They are outstanding, just can't get over how well they work , and all by them self's as well with no help from electric wizardry .

Hi Peter, I doubt you could fit the slats to your model without a recovering job and some structural mods to the top wing panels since when the slats are in they conform to the normal wing section. On my model, the slats work and really do keep the ailerons working at the stall. When locked in, the stall is still a complete non event, but aileron control is very mushy at best. Unlocked however, the slats keep the aileron equipped section of wing flying and therefore decent enough aileron control is retained. I wouldn't be worried in the slightest about flying your model without the slats, as stated previously, the wing is of a very safe planform and there's plenty of area. What weight is your model, have you worked out the wing loading?

Ian.
