Cosford 2013

Postby Paul Savage 1568 » July 21st, 2013, 7:17 pm

Not sure if there is a current thread on here on which to comment on in regards to the outcome of Cosford 2013. I've had a look around the forum and I can't find one so I'll start a new one here.

Great show again this year with near perfect flying weather conditions. I can't beleive I'm saying this, but I'm actually glad that the sun wasn't shining because I reckon it would have been far too hot and oppressive for most of us if it had done.

The event certainly highlighted some of the best of British aeromodelling skills still prevalent today and some of finest choreographed flying sequences to be had anywhere in the world....... Dare I say, just as it should be at this premier UK model aircraft event.

Highlights: There were many.

The very freindly and fun loving German contingency certainly reminded us of how to provide some long lost " Public Entertainment ".

With the over regulatory system that we are often forced to operate within in this country, it was really good to see pyrotechnic supported bombing runs return to Cosford. Did anyone happen to look at the crowd line during these very well choreographed slots. Proof if anyone ever needed it that these types of slots are still as popular today as they ever were with the paying public.

The Dawn Patrol put on an incredibly well supported number of slots. It simply doesn't get any more realistic than this.

The numerous action packed WW2 fighter, radial engined and turbine jet slots, especially that pair of Hawks, were simply incredible to watch
and not forgetting the "Boss's" Vulcan flights.

All in all, another great show and one that I'm proud to have played a small part in again this year.

A simple and short message to the organisers:

A job very well done again and thank you for a great weekend.

Paul.

Agree with everything Paul has said, we attended on Saturday and the crowds get bigger every year. Virtually every slot was a show stopper and the sound of the radial engines was music to my ears and what about the rotary engine what a feat of engineering that was to see it flying and doing a touch and go with just ignition control for throttle.

Hope you don't mind the only negative point for us was the lack of speakers at the left hand end (as you look out to the flight line) of the flight line. I had my elderly parents who can't walk to far these days and we were seated at the top end having parked in the disable car park as directed next to the perimeter boundary, they couldn't walk any further down the flight line to get a better position. With the increased public interest we may need more speakers for next year.

We all still enjoyed the day, looking forward to next year.

Regards
Paul

Hi Paul, we do have another PA System from the late Colin Hammond, which we hope will be up and running at next years shows, once I have work out how it all go together, we couldn't risk it this year as we ran out of time.

Hello all, have been coming to this show for many years now. But this year had bad organisation on entry.
Been told off or shouted at 6 times, by helpers. When other helpers had told me to move or join temp parking etc.
Not once was I asked to produce my camping pass on arrival.
Even though registered Disabled, both sides of me when talking had nothing wrong with them, just said they were when they asked to go down the bottom of the field.
Then to my horror, one of them had a barbeque on Saturday night, inside there awning !!!.
I am ex forces, and understand the situation, which was current due to bikini state of alert.
The flying, was as usual epic.
Maybe, this was due to the early entry time, which did not happen, but nothing was set up at my time of entry.
Finally, the gentleman with the large white beard. ( you are a legend Sir, never seeing you stop working the whole weekend )
Kind regards, to all who put the show on.
