REED FALCON – Radio Controlled Bi Plane Airframe – Designed by Ken Bonnema. The model measures 72” wingspan by 67” long ( not including the spinner ) and stands 24” high...

got at a very decent price, on ebay, to be a winter project, put a powerful 60cc engine, kit her out and then hang on for 1-2 seasons, not sure if should put a smoke kit in her,

she been naked and never finished , did have a 3w60i in but that sold separately , needs a makeover and colour scheme, electrics, engine, tail wheel, want to cover her not in solortex but in a lighter material, can't remember the name, same stuff on Steve ricketts plane?, need to get hold of a trial pack so i can test and experiment and get an ideal of how to apply the covering,

i will not skimp on servos, 10kg all round 6v, digital or analogue? 1 standard for engine

then get here tested next year with the help of a pro pilot,

only 3 more aircraft to get dc3, 104" texan/harvard, 104" chipmunk and then my hanger is full

1000 grade, non shrinking dope, both for adhesion, shrink with heat, then dope, sure you want to do this?,

its cheaper that solartex and lighter, application is different, but i willing to learn new techniques,

do you dope then spay paint

or paint then dope?

richard, thats a tad like doing the gloss hefore the undercoat on your house, adhere with dope, apply with heat, dope to seal, then paint, basically

Don't bank on Diatex + adhesive & multiple coats of dope being lighter than Tex.

It's longer lasting but a much more labour intensive process. You have A LOT of surface area there so it'd be worth doing some weight comparisons before committing to the Diatex process.

Richard- I sense a great deal of 'running before you can walk' here. I believe you have a Greenly, put a cooking motor about 26cc in that, learn to cover it (using Solatex, as it is easy to do) then ask someone to teach you to fly that properly before you spend any more money on more and more models that you will not be able to handle for some years. Until you have the experience of fitting out and setting up models and engines, keep it simple and user friendly. The comment about dope and paint shows you have not researched coverings and have no experience. Start simple, and read as much as you can on the subject. Leave the complex models for later.

after a very helpul LMA member has explained how diatex is applied and the amount of work involved i have decided to stick to profilm or solortex, or HK versions of profilm

hobbyking UK have started to sell rolls that are similar to profilm @ £6 for a 5m roll, i going to experiment, with all 3 versons to seen what the differences are?

but we will see

so back to the 26cc coop first,to get that ready for testing!
