Generator problems

I have a clarke G900 700 watt generator, This has worked fine until recently, when I started it up and plugged my electric drill in to the socket the would only turn slowly ie low power output. the generator has worked this drill before without any problems
Have tested socket output with meter and it reads 230 volts. looks like I have the volts but no grunt ?
Idea,s what the problem is would be appreciated. (other than throw it in the bin, because thats the next move)

Try checking the oil level possibly has oil alert on low oil level,hope this is helpful.

Assuming the drill works on your normal mains supply, does the drill on the generator when operated slow down the generator revs or do they remain the same? If they remain the same has a "trip" operated on the genny?

If the trip had operated, then the drill would not work at all. With an oil alert, the gennie would not start. It is something in the actual generator part that is malfunctioning. I dont know the method of generating, but I would assume there is a part which can be replaced to repair it?

John, Have a check around the carburettor to see if a spring has come adrift. when the genny senses a load it asks the throttle to open automatically as required. I had the connecting spring come adrift on mine which had the similar problem. worth a look ?

Thank you for your replies, I think bob is on the right track, so any further info would be appreciated. But for the time being i will leave it till I get back.
