Postby Peter Siggins » July 31st, 2015, 4:50 pm

I maidened my Ziroli Stuka today which is fitted with a DLE 55 rear exhaust. The silencer is pretty useless as the noise for our field is unacceptable ,is there anyone out there who can help and make an efficient silencer for this engine?

Email me on sigginsc@aol.com or ring 01332 811546

Thanks for looking

Pete

Always a problem, the standard so called sliencer supplied is nothing more than a noise amplifier (ian redshaws words, always amused me :D ) May i suggest a modicom of wood removal, and fit a rear exhaust manifold, and a canister through the bulkheads?

The Tony Clarke zenoha 38 silencer has enough area for a 55

Thanks for info Alan, but the tank is in a box immediately behind firewall, fitting a canister would mean a complete redesign of front end.
I was hoping something along the lines of Sid King's design for the Zenoah 38's which I think would do the job, only I haven't the equipment to braze one together.
Ian's view of the DLE one is spot on - nice coin of phrase.

Thanks again Pete

The brison muffler will not be much of an improvment, mhow about cutting the one open you have, fitting a deflection baffle, and running into another silencer body, a gaz cannister for instance, cut a step into the fuselage to take it, at the rear of the engine cylinder, this will give you two silencers, its a lot of messing, but could be worth it, i am sure if you fab the parts, someone can braze them up for you,

Thanks again Alan I've just taken engine/silencer off to see what room I have got, you're absolutely right there is enough for a decent box .It would have to be tailor made and I'm hoping to persuade a friend of mine to make it for me.
Thanks for heads up its time these engine manufacturers got their act together and supplied the proper gear.
I must say the DLE 55 has oodles of power,I was flying the Stuka at quarter throttle and never used full ,even for take off - not bad for a 29lb model.

Better something round, something square takes the exhaust blast like water hitting a wall, radiused, it flows round, and out, Take a hose pipe, aim it at a piece of wood, at 90 degrees, hear the noise, now angle it over, hear the noise decrease, There is a market there for custom install silencers, only good old Phil Clarke, and just engines do this, far as i know, Ages ago, there was a firmula in the journal, for areas etc, cant remember who it was off, might be worth ressure ting the article?

Give me a shout if we can be of any assistance Pete......we (by which I mean Harry Harland with the final fettling by me) made this last month to shoe horn a ZG45 and fully enclosed muffler into a Hanger 9 ARTF P-47.......all parts via Toni Clark. We've done 6-8 of this sort of muffler over recent years.....all seemed to work very well.
