Hello to all,
I'm french (very East of France, region called Alsace) and I find this forum by looking for parts for my 1/4 Hellcat airframe.
I was in Duxford last summer and I saw the nice triple inline cylinders engine from David and your nice aircrafts...
So I was thinking that some of you would be interested that I share with you two projects that I have with a friend.
The first is a gear reducer that can be bolted-on the Moki 250 (5 cylinders) that I'll explain hereunder.
Second is a 1/4 scale (of course !) Hamilton type prop that includes an internal electrical mecanism to change the pitch in flight.
I'll create another post for this subject.
Since I start the hobby I was always interested in scale (or semi-scale) aircrafts but at the same time I didn't like the fact that usually the propellers are WAY too small...especially on Warbirds.
This to say that I start thinking of of gear reducer for my Moki. I've already adapted a Torquemaster from Mick Reeves on a DLE 111 but the noise (yes, not the sound) of these engines is awful...
Seidel-props is proposing a very nice gear reducer but the price is...well, let's say too expensive for me.
RG250 Technical specifications:
- helical gears
- 80W90 oil
- total weight: approx. 6 lb
- gear ratio: 1.77:1
- additional length: (at prop hub) : 102 mm
- SKF bearings
- Prop hub bolt pattern: Moki 400
- No modification of the Moki 250
Initial propeller will be a FIALA 38"x34" threeblade. Note that FIALA does not ask an extra charge for prop pitch over 22".
This prop will turn at a rotational speed of approx. 2800rpm for an engine rev of approx. 5000 rpm.
First parts will be machined in few weeks.
My Moki is equiped with an electric pump so there's no provisition on the prototype for the mounting of the mechanical pulsation pump (possible however).
Here is the reducer:
and here is the big cat (128" WS):
