Work in the shed been delayed of late due to having my house knocked around. However back in the shed over the last few days and the build of the airframe is complete, now starting the laborious task of bashing the balsa. Attached is a picture of the wing, I've given the top skin is first cut before applying floor varnish, its my chosen way of building. The size of the flaps are evident.

I've spent what seems an age bashing balsa, then covering with glass cloth and floor varnish. However I had a few hours spare this evening so painted the first coat of primer in my garden.

A couple of hours in the garden this evening. Flatting down yesterdays primer another coat of primer and then the left over paint supplied by the paintshop who painted my van. The result is a very shiny model.

Grey parts painted yesterday evening. Although I'm no expert on paint it appears that I've used acrylic instead of cellulose. As a result the green is still soft and the masking tape has stipled the lovely shiny surface. The finish on the grey parts is fantastic, I'll speak to the paint shop tomorrow about getting a lacquer to seal the paint. I'm putting the fury to one side for a while whilst I sort out my pucara and helldivers engine.

I used acrylic on my Mitsubishi babs give a great finish but was also worried whether it was petrol proof ,so I bought a two part lacquer to seal it .Fantastic stuff gave a very hard finish but was pretty shiny.Its made in Germany so isn't particularly cheap but does the job
I've taken the elevator to the people who painted my van and who gave me the paint. Apparently I've neglected to use hardener with the paint. I'm no expert on paint, the only hardener that I was aware of comes in the form of little blue pills. I've been told to wait a few days then scrub it with scotchbright then give it a coat with hardener.
I've found a local bloke who fabricates specialist parts for motorbikes when I wanted some repairs to some exhausts. I knew I was on to a winner when he's got a large picture of a mustang in his office. So I've taken the fury up today and he's going to fabricate me some exhausts.
Exhausts for the fury completed. I'll let the pictures do the talking. For less the price of two BCM exhausts.
Now I just need to get this ridiculous paint fiasco sorted, I've given the green a coat of paint with hardener this evening, it's got more runs than a cricket match. I just hope it goes off, due to the warm weather the paint without hardener is super tacky.
I've had my share of paint disasters over the years and now try to avoid anything but common or garden cellulose. I fear that your best option will be to wash it off with thinners and start again........ been there - done that
I couldn't agree more, what makes it even more annoying is that I've got the same colours in cellulose that I did the firefly in. Having experienced numerous fopars in paint before I always try and use cellulose, I didn't even give it a thought with the excess paint from my van, lesson learnt, again The green from yesterday seems to have gone hard, the finish is terrible on the fuselage so is going to require more work but at least it's not sticking to everything it touches.
Happy with the pucara Maiden flight I've got the sea fury back on the bench , unfortunately house renovation is taking up the majority of my time. The crux of this project is the engine. Attached are a couple of pictures of the carburettor modifications on it. I've taken the mikuni float bowl carbs off and replaced them with a tillotson carb and manifold that I acquired off a scrap snowmobile motor. My mate Tony, the wizard on the lathe, milled the adaptor plate and I've managed to find a vacuum source for the carburettor pump so it should work. In the best shedology style I've made an air filter out of a tupperware tub.

House complete im back in the shed. Just a few pictures showing the 11" carbon fibre spinner , the canopy from a cut down 1/4 scale p51 canopy. Its still rough, I don't intend to spend hours repainting until it's proven itself in flight. I've also attached the definitely not scale tail wheel. In the best shedology style its a scooter fork and wheel that uses two ply plates as bearings, it steers and should be bullet proof. Eventually it could be covered by scale doors.

It looks amazing Karl, a bit of a beast in fact. I find moving a Meister FW 190 around has enough problems and risks to fluorescent tubes, goodness knows how you manage this one.
Thanks Stu. It is ridiculous, picking up the fuselage is something of a heroic feat.
This afternoon I've put it together for the first time, I had hoped to balance it but unfortunately it went dark. Although the bear is considerably bigger it doesn't have the presence of the fury. The wheels are obviously too small for scale appearances , however when they're tucked away in flight you won't see them, I don't intend to spend excessively on a model that may not live longer than its first flight.

Karl thats superb...i wish you every sucses in its test flights & if that old saying if it looks right....your onto a winner....i bet thats going to look awsome banked over on its side 10ft off the deck at full chat....please get some youtube of it..
