Hi All
I thought it would be good to use the forum to catalogue my next project. I managed to win on a certain auction site, a 'Fokker Friendship' which looked like it needed some work to get it in the air and thought why not.
So here we are! It's quite heavy currently, sat on the scales with just the airframe and it's 9.5kg's, wing span of roughly 3.3 meters and a fuse of 2.5 meters. It's a complete wood construction with no composite parts in sight, the chap I bought it from also had little knowledge about the plane so I'm not entirely sure who built it - it's completely scratch built using 3,6 and 12mm formers and lots of spruce hidden here and there which will be ripped out, replaced with lighter wood and reinforced with Carbon and epoxy where I can fit it.
Engine wise, it looks like it ran on two Nitro engines but no clue what size or whether they were 4/2 stroke. I'm a bit stuck on what to power the airframe to be honest - I'm going down the electric route purely for convenience and the fact that it will stay clean so I'm guessing 400kv (+.61 equivalent) motors on a 6S setup. Would like to couple some 3 blade props if possible to add some scale and that will also help should I have to be careful with ground clearance on a 2 blade prop - this is just my own assumption so any advice would be helpful at this point!
Tomorrow I'll start sanding the fuselage and remove the layers of paint and polyfilla that are present in certain areas, colour scheme wise I'm not sure yet - I'm a bit of a fan of modern livery and this old girl is a bit of a classic so I think the FEDEX colour scheme may work well!
I'll add more photos as I go along :-)
