M2 Left hand thread screws

Postby Dave Osborne » January 7th, 2018, 2:55 pm

Does anyone know where to buy M2 left hand threaded screws / bolts / rod? I want to make a turnbuckle but cannot find one long enough in M2. I have a centre of the turnbuckle that will do the job and I can make the right hand threaded part OK from some normal threaded rod but the left hand thread part is proving difficult to source so I could use a screw or bolt with the head cut off. Steel, stainless or brass are OK.

Of course I can get a left hand die and cut the thread myself but is prone to bending the rod at these small diameters so I would prefer a ready made article if possible.

Cheers Dave.

Ive died lots of M2 in my job, but long lengths, and never left hand, we use expensive dies, and a 4 cutter coventary die box. Bit specialist, best of luck,

Thanks.

Nothing on Mick Reeves's site that fits the bill unfortunately. Ordered a die to try and cut it myself but if anyone knows would still be interested!!

cheers Dave.

Thanks for the offer. I have managed to make the threaded rod, I got my LH die from RDG tools as well!! The nuts would be useful though. Perhaps you can make me 6 or so (if its worth your while). Let me know. Material is not too important, whatever you are going to use yourself would be ok as its for some undercarriage door actuating rods so no big loads etc. The threaded bar I made is brass if that helps.

Thanks. Dave.

I can get you short lengths of hex brass stock through work for a small cost, in fact, I can get short pieces of anything you want at a fraction of the price from anywere else, it’s all legit, and operated through our bar end policy, watch your core drill size, not much meat there, no bigger that 1.62
