Vickers valiant build

Postby andy johnson » March 5th, 2018, 12:22 am

After a 6 year break I have decided that this year is the year to finally get the valiant finished and flown , my aim is for cosford model show where I hope we will get the 3 V bombers up together . The fuz has been built for a number of years but I never got round to building the wings . Steve Holland kindly offered to help and design the wing and cut all the ribs on his laser cutter for me , I started 3 weeks ago by finishing the tail and covering it in white Hobby king film ,the film is quick to do and will help to keep the weight down .I hope the model will be under 40kg and will be powered by 2 wren 80 turbines .

Interested to know which colour scheme you are going to use Andy.
The Valiant being the first of the V bomber Nuclear fleet. was also in anti flash white
Also the only one of the three to drop a nuclear weapon.
What a fabulous sight to see the V force fly in formation.

Great work Andy I am following it on Facebook, and it is coming along nicely. this will be the ultimate camera shot with all three V bombers together. Every Model mag will want that shot, no pressure.

With both wings now up to the same stage I have fitted them both to the fuz and have now sheeted the top of the first wing , people will see i butt join the sheets and glue 3/32 strips under each joint to give a larger gluing area for strength .[attachment]

Bang goes the rain forest....be nice to see them all fly together, thought it might happen with the last Valiant, but that was an ignominious ending!

Hope to see it fly at some point Andy.
Dad was going to join me for my first Cosford trip, but I'm now heading overseas on another judging assignment.

Hope to catch it later in the season.

The valiant has now flown , I still have retract doors and detail to go on but I wanted to see it fly before doing anymore work . It flies as good as the victor in every way without any alterations
