Spitfire Project

Hi Guys,

Having bought a 1/4 scale Spitfire (wooden kit) from Mick Reeves, I have decided to put it on my wood burner at home as I didn't think much of the plans or the quality of the kit.

Does anyone have any real suggestions as to what a good Spitfire kit is these days as I am really keen on Spitfire's having worked on the real airplanes the in the past.

I have never heard a good word about the above kit and wish I hadn't bothered buying it, my fault and I hold my hands up high on this one.

But, I really would appreciate any suggestions.

Iv got a Pica 88" wing span Spitfire which im building at mo,got to say it's slowed right down well stopped to be honest,now stand in the courner of my room.

Anyway before i brought it i had a Don Smith 1/4th Spitfire kit from Belair never built it but the cutting etc of it was very very nice and looks nice when finished but i feel at the end of the day with Spitfire's there hard to build anyway and the bigger you go the bigger the price tag all round (in my opinion).

Mike Booth's Spitfire is very nice aswell and he was selling 1 of his ready to fly on here.

You could try Belair they still have a few Brian Taylor kits left when i last spoke to them.

Hope some of this info helps im sure you will have a few more people ideas and they will put me right aswell im sure

well instead of burning it, i will give you 50 quid for it, friend of mine has just built one, he had--err--issues, but it looks like a spit, and will, no doubt, fly very well, deal is it?

If you want an all wood traditional build, look at the Brian Taylor Mk.8 - 83" span, plans cowl & canopy from Traplet publications, laser cut kits also from them or Belair.

Full composite.......CompARF do a 1/4.5 scale Mk.9 for 60-80cc engines at around 100" span

Mike Booth (Flying Legends) also has his full composite 1/4 scale version at 115" span for 60-100cc engines
