Fighteraces completes....FW 190 D9

Postby Phil Clark » February 8th, 2011, 11:26 pm

Following delivery of the 1/6 scale B-26 last September, the latest project to reach completion is a 1/5 scale 'FW190 D9' built from the SisT Modellbau kit. At 83" span and 81" long, this full composite model has been finished in the marking of Josef 'Pips' Priller of JG26 in early 1945.

Power is from a ZG45 with a custom st/st muffler mounted inside the fuz behind the firewall. Retracts are Sierra all round, as are the wheels. Radio is JR/Spectrum AR9000 with 2 additional satellites, 2 HD switches and a 3,300Mah 6v NiMh pack. 10 serves are fitted being a mix of JR & Hi-Tec.

Paint finish is exclusively 'Warbirdcolors' with a matt 'Klass Kote' epoxy clear coat. Being that this aircraft was operating in the winter of 44/45 on the eastern front in far from ideal conditions, though it was a relatively new airframe, it was VERY dirty.....hence the high degree of dirt and grime applied to the surface.

Cockpit interior is from InZpan with additional items scratch built by us. The pilot figure is also from ourselves and has been fitted with a 'Photo face' produced from archive photo of the original pilot. The drop tank & pylon are also additions from our own kits and can be dropped in flight.

At this time, the model is complete and the TX programmed ready to go. Tomorrow will see the CG checked (allowing us to get an idea of the AUW) and initial engine runs down on the new ZG45. I've been tasked with the test flight of this model, so more news as and when I have it....

Phil,

Final result looks excellent mate,as always a credit to you,the owner must be delighted, interesting to read you are also tasked with the test flight - no pressure there then.

Out of interest let me know when the 1/4 scale version looks like it might be happening, provided of course a Moki radial can be nailed onto the front.

Speak soon Trevor.

I hear from SisT only last week that the new 1/4 scale 19oA is now in prodction......I'm awaiting photos and price details before I can update the site. (& yes, a 250 can be nailed on.....as far as I know, that's exctly what he's developed the front end around)

Looks like the cannon shoots through the prop disc, did they have synchronised guns?or is it an optical delusion

Yes, they are through the prop disc, as are the 2 machine guns mounted on top of the engine ahead of the cockpit........
