Yesterday saw sunshine so the 190 was taken out for its photo shoot at Baldock. Fitted with the new Evolution 99cc which will be run up soon. :D

Chris,just as i expected from you :P Another stunning warbird.Love the detail ,the cowl looks very good. Good luck with the test flight,sounds like you will have plenty of grunt with that donkey bolted up front :D . See you at Barkston Warbirds /Scampton Warbirds.

Beautiful work, a classic FW which will be the best on the circuit. The pilot will need headgear on to hear the cries of his wingman as half a Squadron of Spitfires descend on the tail.
Mind you with that power you will probably outrun them.

Thanks Mike no headgear needed, he's heard about Baldock Marrow and is heading over there alone, very angry with some pr pilot that took a picture of his Mum bent over the peg bag and hanging up the washing, so chocks away chockey :D

Sunday saw the test run of the evo radial, 99cc glow engine, The engine was primed and amazingly started on the 3rd flick, nice and crisp with no throttle set up needed, a 40oz tank was run through it at about 1/4 throttle which lasted 40 mins, secound attempt saw much flicking to find the onboard glow was run down, after a re charge she started very easy again and ended up running about nearly 2 hours in total, an onboard glow driver with throttle settings is going to be fitted, this will mean that it will only use glow power off of the battery for up to 1/4 power then turn off, so if a pot ever goes out, just drop the power and it will kick in again, the engine did not miss a beat and did its first hour on 90 per cent methonal 10 per cent oil, no nitro yet, it ran very quiet then once we reduced the oil to 8 per cent it became louder with a nice rasp sound. youtube link below. :D

Engine in and now running great, ticks over a treat, c of g is nose heavy so test flight didn't happen this weekend, plus wind and rain didn't help, :cry: got to move batterys back and tinker with a couple of other bits then were ready to fly. :D had a taxi around the feild, fealt good, thanks to John Greenfield for helping me set the engine up, lets hope for good weather now to have a go.

As seen here the radial is a very short engine, so the box to mount it on is about twice as long as it would be with a petrol engine, the fuel tank and batteries are in the box area.

Hi Dave
Decided to not use glow driver, the engine shouldn't need one if set up right and i think we have it running well, a driver for a 9 cylinder is only available as far as i know from the states at over 150 pounds, another point is you need a big battery to cover the amps, i have the battery to start, then remove, anyway we shall see. good luck also with your Dr1 and the British weather. :D

Hello Chris,i have used a couple of these in the past one on a radial and on on a DS B17 with 4 OS91s in it,both where faultless and i never had any issues with battery power.They come with a socket so you can charge or plug in an auxillary battery for starting,also the plug caps are superb push and twist to lock.Cheers,Dave.http://www.sonictronics.com/xcart/produ ... 308&page=1

Well yesterday was the big day. the engine was getting a bit hot in the cowling. must do more exit area. so removed the cowling and strapped a club hammer on to allow for the wait loss. did a few taxi runs on half power with tail lifted and it fealt good. did a few final checks and went out again. gave it some power but it dropped back on takeoff. a gentle fly around on half power and brought her in for a landing to find a stuck up leg. so other leg up and greased her in breaking the prop. oh well all ok. just need to get another prop and and fine tune and duct the engine a bit. only needed a couple of clicks of down. at least and at last shes a flyer :D

Well done mate . What a horrible situation to bee in on a maiden then a sticky gear but at least she'll fly again . Btw did you use any flappy bits on landing .

Thanks Aaron, no didnt want to damage the flaps, nice glide path though, at least next time out all i have to do is concentrate on the engine, coz the planes ok, think i was rushing a bit to get it in the air.

Nice one Chris always a relief when you get some air over the wings,i know you had a few issues but a new prop is a small price to pay.

Well the 190 still hasn't been back out yet, but a few minor jobs have been done and she's raring to go, I'm going to wait for better weather so I can really enjoy it. As for getting it out as a kit I had a few issues with bits, mainly being, cutting the cowling mould up and reconstructing as a 4 part mould instead of the original 2 piece which caused problems removing the cowls, a job I was not looking forward to. So I designed and built the yak while I was putting off this job, :D anyway as for the kit side, today I test built the main part of the fuz, this took 5 hours and I'm pleased with the way it went together, new cowlings are now done and pop out a treat, and the tail end all fits well, next I will unpack the wings and get them together, these will be a 2 part with a joining spar. Today's progress below.
